Roof Rack - Factory?

I've seen this exact rack on other Burbs, but it's not mentioned specifically on the equipment placard. Anyone know the history on these i.e. factory option, dealer install, or complete after market?

board member CHKD from AZ (I think that his screen name) has one on his 'burb, he might've said it was a dealer option.

I have heard these were dealer add on's. Not factory. Looks nice though. I like the way it slopes to the front. Nice rack!

Thanks guys. When I first saw the truck on eBay I though the rack would be the first thing to go. But now with the drop and some wheels it has really grown on me. It's right in line with the look I'm going for. A nice rack does wonders...

Re: Roof Rack - Factory?

I picked up the same one from http://vintagechevytrucks.com/ so it is at the very least dealer, if not factory. Another thread with similar mount: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=543445

Man that's one nice looking luggage rack! I can tell my 70 suburban had a luggage rack on it because I can see where someone filled the bolt holes. I wish I still had the rack.

Re: Roof Rack - Factory?

Roof racks were all dealer installed when I worked at GM dealers from 74 to 80. I don't think they wanted them on during shipping. We had to drill the holes and put the nutserts in to install. Even the wagons came without racks.

Re: Roof Rack - Factory?

I have this same rack for my suburban does it matter which way it’s installed if the brackets are facing one way or the other cause I think it looks more slick installed opposite the way it is in the brochure
