she starts up, and immediately stops.

The old girl was running like a champ, started up nicely and running as expected several times during the day. My wife takes her to pick up some wings to eat while watching the game. She comes out of the wing joint, attempts to start her up and it's a no-go. Repeatedly, she starts and quits. After some unsuccessful troubleshooting onsite for obvious stuff, we towed her home.

Initially, I was suspecting the distributor, but then I noticed that other electric stuff (car radio, power windows, etc) wasn't working with the ignition switch in the "on" position. After some aggressive switch 'jiggling', I was able to get her started again.

Question: does this sound reasonable (that the ignition switch would just start failing that abruptly)? Or did I just get lucky the morning afterwards that it started? Obviously I have some more tinkering to do, but just running things through my head while at the desk job today. Is there anything I should try to test my theory?

Thanks!

Re: she starts up, and immediately stops.

I would check voltage at the ING post on the switch. Try switching it on and off and from start to run several times to see if you have battery voltage (12VDC) every time. Your loss of power to other stuff makes the switch the likely suspect. I would also take a close at the wiring and connector at the switch.

Re: she starts up, and immediately stops.

Hi HO455 !

Thanks for the help. update: I swapped out the switch and all is good again. This past weekend, before swapping out the switch, I could feel the metal around the switch getting quite hot, and at one point my daughter smelled "something burning". When I removed the switch, I noticed the BATT terminal area had partially melted, and the wire to it was a bit charred. I replaced the connected with a new one, installed the switch and - so far so good - it's been working like a champ. As a plus, the ACC position now works too!
