Just a quick question: Did they use the same cabs for the C/K 10-30s and 40-90s. I was at a junkyard last week and they had a '70 C60. Its cab was identical to my C20.

The windshield frame,dash,inner kick panels,top (inside/outside),and back panel (inside/outside) are the same

You could probably make it work on a pickup, and modify the fender sides of the flip up hood to be more "Pickup like".

They are the same width.

I personally think it would look awkward having a C-60 Cab on a C-30, but then again, I've never seen one. A 4-53 will fit into the C-30 as it is. I may just get one into one of my trucks yet.

It's the same cab,but it isn't. Cabs are "assembled" from various panels. The ones that are different are the floor and cowl area panels because the frames & drivetrains are completely different and the whole front clip is different and they mount up different. The engine is actually crowded back farther into the firewall,so the firewall panel is different. You could combine a C/50 cab and a C/10 cab to make one or the other. Problem is,other than all that work,is the areas that are different are the areas that are usually bad.
We have a member here,Livrat,who is building a crew cab combining an MD truck cab & Suburban and using a MD front clip on an MD frame (I think)

The truck is all original. The owner purchased it new and only hauled asphalt with it. I actually had the pleasure of driving it about eight years ago.

I picked up a 71 GMC 5500 today with 15k original miles on it. Planning on making a 5th wheel/gn hauler out if it. I'll get pics up after Christmas

Here is the old "Winch Truck" 1967 C-50 with it's original 327. It was first titled in 1969, and used in a salvage yard until the late 70's when it was purchased by my great uncle Joe as a thank you gift for my Dad. My dad painted his 1955 Chevy and he liked it so much he bought my dad this old beast. He knew how much the truck was needed for around his shop. It's seen it's better days, that's for sure! But it still fires right up and drags whole trees out of the woods, or picks up some of the biggest rocks you've ever seen with its 30 ton winch. It's been rolling around on level ground, waiting for some attention for about two years...I want to get the brakes working properly again, and put some new doors, cab corners and rockers back on it, and just keep it going. It definitely deserves it! I have a great amount of respect for this machine. Reason One: It will kill you! lol Two: It has been around since I can remember with minimal maintance! Had there been a place to store it, it probably wouldn't need much of anything fixed. Three: Every time a job has called for it...it fires right up faithfully, and gets the job done! And Four: This truck very well could be the cause for my 67-72 Chevy truck illness!

Looks like a tough 'ol truck. I like the Spoke Wheels. It is rare to see them on a C-50.

I finally put my '71 GMC on the road this past weekend. Put about 110 miles on it and did pretty good. The notchy Clark 5 speed + 2 speed rear takes some getting used to though. I don't know if I'm not shifting the 2 spd rear right or not but it seems to grind and take several seconds to shift from high to low range. However, it shifts from low to high just fine???

I stopped at the scales on the way home and I was grossing 29K.

Nice looking set up.

When Shifting the Rear from High to Low, hit the button down just a little before you need it. If it is a "Split Shift", shift the trans first, then hit the button and let the rear engage while you are releasing the clutch for your trans shift.

By the way, others may say different, but I always use the Clutch when shifting the rear as well. About the only time I would not use the clutch, would be going from Low to High in 5th. That shift is usually pretty smooth.

I going to continue to practice. It has the working 5 speed so I'm also having to re-train my brain for 4L-5L-4H-5H shift as well. I think I like the old RoadRanger 10 speeds better.

I agree, I like a Road Ranger a whole lot more, but a 2-Speed Rear is better than no 2-Speed.

Having that type of 5-Speed is really nice as you can go through 9-Speeds and only having to deal with engaging Low with the button down twice (skipping 1-H if you have a granny gear first).

Man I know this is an OLD thread, but I thought I should mention.... I bought a Brand new short block for this truck .... it came from a gm dealer as a replacement truck motor, and went to a truck shop but unfortunately got stored in a shed that had a roof collapse and when I asked about it,, the guy got it out and had one piston lightly stuck... so he smacked with a hammer and broke it I tore it down and took the 7 good pistons and the bare rod to the machine shop along with a new GM piston and had it pressed on..... so we are back to a factory new short block ( tall deck had my original small port truck heads rebuilt) and the complete motor that came out of it....

it will likely go back as original ... still don't know where to get a shift tower for a 5756b Spicer though........ oh and just in case everyone is lost... this is the 427 truck motor, unfortunately not a detroit

I regret not having a picture but I worked in a quarry in NH years ago. We had an '82 C-60 six-wheeler we used to call Stub. We all drove old Macks with Mack-10s or 8spLLs or mine with the 6sp you could eat a sandwich between gears but this little truck would kick all of our a**es. It had a little kitty with a 5sp and 2sp rear that shifted when it wanted to and made sure to let you know it was mad about it. Funny thing that after all the abuse we put old Stub through, it did not break, ever. We broke, it didn't.

E80 Dump, (yes they were E80s not C80s) 1965? GMC version was a B series. Auction ad had it listed as a 1970 though. Someone got a nice truck for $1400.00
