96 fuel gauge overactive

my 96 Blazer (4.3 W) has a fuel gauger which swings quite rapidly during turns and stops. this only happens with less than 1/2 tank. I looked on IATN and found out about TSB # 76-83-05 which mentions a #12167652 (dampner) for this issue. has anyone else done this or know about this? the part is $123 and is out of my budget. I was thinking of hunting the salvage yards but am curious what may be involved in the retrofit. appearantly these came on all 97s and later models.
any help?
