64 c10 rear axle

So my factory lsd 12 bolt is a 64 model with the pssangers side panhard mount on the axle. My question is I believe it’s a 17 spline axle and I’m wanting to swap from 6 lug to 5x4.75 chevelle pattern. Where is a good place to get axles that won’t break the bank and also spider gears that wil work with the factory lsd.

Re: 64 c10 rear axle

If the wheel bearing surface on your current axles is good, I would just have the wheel stud holes plugged and redrilled to 5 x 4.75. You will have to have the hub register machined as well. I do make a rear disc brake conversion bracket set for the 5 x 4.75 that will bolt up to the truck/Impala backing plate flange. I also have a set of good 17 spline axles.

Re: 64 c10 rear axle

Thank you for the reply. My boss doesn’t really like redrilling axles so he recommended moser (sp)

Re: 64 c10 rear axle

I re recommended keeping your original axles since to my knowledge, no one makes 17 spline axles. Plus by the time you replace the side spiders in your current LSD, (if you can find them) you will be close to half the cost of a new posi unit. It sounded like you were on a tight budget. A new posi unit plus a set of aftermarket custom axles will run you $8-900 easily.

Very limited budget. Might see if I can work of some mods this winter with my boss. Trying to get my rear narrowed so all I have to do is buy axles. He’s got a line on them being a vendor
