NP 205 Mount
I was reading through one of the associated forums here (early burbs I think) and there was a sinificant thread regarding the history of attaching NP205 TC's to the frame and why it was a very bad thing to do and would likely cause stress and crackign to the TC. Mine is bolted to the frame, but my 75 is honestly a mall crawler with some sand thrown in twice a year. Is this a big issue and something I should remedy on a blazer?

I don't think so. Well, I'll qualify that and put it this way: If there is I've never heard of it. When you say frame mount though, I'm thinking attached to frame-mounted cross member. But now I'm wondering if not that, what else is there? IDK, now I'm lost!

Mine (IIRC as its in shop) has a bolted attachment to the frame itself on the side of it.. trying to find a picture now actually.

My 73 all original. 203 t-case bolted to frame. not sure if this helps.

It helps me, I've never seen a side mount like that. Wonder what year was the last for that type mount? Is it just one side?
eighteenninetytwo I wouldn't sweat it. If you were going to make a trail rig out of it then maybe. |

Yes Passenger side. First one I've had like that. Kind of stumped me when I was doing the lift. Was thinking about removing it and finding a torque rod for it.

The convo on the other forum was centered around the use of the torque rod as opposed to the bolt to the frame. Opinion from an ex GM worker was that the frame mount was insufficiently flexible under power and caused cracking. That was why they switched to the rod system after 74. I have a 1972 NP 205 so its mounted direct.

I have a 71 Blazer with 205. Does not have either torque bar or bracket on it.
Just sits on cross member. Didn't think the 205s used the extra bracket/bar on the first Gens. |

Yes all 69-72 Np205 had the side mount . If the pad on the T-case isn't drill & taped is a later model Np205 .
