Barrett Jackson Las Vegas

Last week I was out in Las Vegas on vacation and the Barrett Jackson auction was there. Wasn't even aware they were there until a buddy called and told me. So I thought it would be a good break from the gambling and crazy people seen. Here are some pis for your enjoyment. Sorry for the cell phone pics.

Barret-Jackson: driving up the prices for the rest of us. Also, free market/capitalism.

Other than that, nice pics. Glad you had a good time.

Yes, Barrett is driving up the prices! All I can says is I'm glad I already have my truck. Some of the trucks that bring the crazy money have many discrepancies, hope the people paying these prices know what they’re buying !!!

Same thing happened with the machine gun market, according to a Class III dealer I know. (Main problems with the machine gun market is the Hughes Amendment).

My impression with the BJ crew is "I have money and that's pretty. It would look great in my garage."

As opposed to? "I have a little less money and it's still pretty. It would look great in my garage."

I think it's a great way to sell a vehicle, as it bring qualified buyers (ie: cash) together with nice vehicles. That's a convenience and you pay for it, right? But it saves you pouring over eBay and Hemmings for 3 years looking for a good deal on a nice truck... you can just write a check for a nice truck right then and there.

Cash for convenience, that's all. Not nearly as sinister as the people on the outside looking in generally color it as.

I used to go to BJ LV every year, that was my annual car show. Never bought or sold anything though!

Re: Barrett Jackson Las Vegas

If I had a very nice truck to sell BJ probably would be the place to get top dollar for it.... But just like Craigslist, ebay or any other marketing place the buyer needs to know what he / she is buying. As nice as the Blue & White SWB 4x4 looks ( and it is a nice truck ) it has discrepancies that make me believe it may have at least a cab swap or maybe just cobbled together from many different trucks of different yrs. Ie: the rear view mirror is mounted to the roof, the doors are not 72's, the 8-350 emblems are in the wrong location. That's just from walking around it. Don't get me wrong it was a nice truck, but for $47,000 + I would want it to be correct.

My truck has parts from many different trucks, but I try to keep the parts correct for my yr.

Re: Barrett Jackson Las Vegas

You also have to remember BJ is a no reserve for most cars, accept for the expensive elite cars that they allow a reserve price on. I saw a lot of nice cars go for fairly cheap also, like $100K cars going for half or less that price, especially on the first day of auction. You could just as well lose your arse there as a seller.

Re: Barrett Jackson Las Vegas

I know it can go either way. I was there while a guy was questioning the owner about the orange & white blazer, the guy was going to be bidding on it. He asked the owner what range he thought it would go for, the owner replied there's no reserve, it could go for $30,000 to $100,000 you just never know. It went for $74,000. That's taking a big chance if you have a lot of money tide up in it!!!

For those that might have gotten their feelings hurt, which wasn't my intention, and I apologize if that has happened, there was this part of my original reply.

Also, free market/capitalism

I'm pretty hard core on personal liberty and freedom of choice. At the same time, I think BJ is overhyped bling.

No harm, no foul, Everyone has their own take & emotion on these trucks and the market.... I believe these trucks are taking the same basic track of the muscle cars. I love that in some areas of the country you have people that still utilize these trucks for what they were made for, work trucks... Yet on the other hand these trucks are becoming and icon ! I can't help thinking that everyone on this board won't prosper from being involved in these trucks !!!

Re: Barrett Jackson Las Vegas

I posted this thread on a whim, never expected to even be at BJ!!!!!!!!
The fact that our trucks are becoming soooo popular and respected is a great thing.... There will always be a + and a - side to the popularity, just don't want this to become a negative thread !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree, but I like correct trucks with spid sheets that match the truck.
Some people might just like a cool looking truck
The Blazer looks to be correct, and if it is a true highlander it should get big $

There is no doubt about it, highly optioned trucks are starting to bring more money than most of us ever imagined. Just like the muscle cars did in the past.

America is a free market, supply and demand will always dictate the prices

Re: Barrett Jackson Las Vegas

I've been to a few BJ auctions over the years and seen many others on TV. Most people realize that those prices are not the norm and don't expect to sell their trucks for that kind of money. I don't believe the BJ auctions have much of an impact on the truck world. Selling prices on eBay are much more realistic to what goes on in the real world as far as pricing. Prices there have steadily risen over the last few years but not to the ridiculous level we see on TV. It is fun to watch though. I think I even saw a nice blazer go through the BJ auction on Thursday for 17k.

Re: Barrett Jackson Las Vegas

There are lots of great hobbies, trucks, muscle cars, guns, old Chris Craft boats, and so on. Each of these hobbies starts off with enthusiasts who like to collect, work on, use, or whatever. And in every hobby, there are some folks who are interested in the money more than the items. And they buy and sell to make money. That is their right, and there is nothing wrong with that approach.

The trouble is that when prices get driven sky high in these hobbies, a lot of guys are shut out. That's just the way it is. I'm not saying it's good or bad.

My 69 will never bring those BJ prices. It does not have enough desirable options, it is a LWB fleetside, and it is dark green and white. But, it's a very low mile, totally original truck that's fun to play with, and entertaining to drive. It also gets lots of looks and thumbs up, and that's good enough for me.

I guess what I'm saying is that you don't need a $50K 67-72 to have a great hobby vehicle, just have to be patient and knowledgable, and good things will happen.

Now, if you have just won the lottery, I bet going to the BJ events is a lot of fun, and you can get the pickup that's so nice, you'll be afraid to drive it.
