Do i need new gauges now?

So i didnt think about it until after starting the truck, used to have inline 6 and now have a 350...the oil pressure stays buried on the H and after it warms up the temp is butied as well. Is that just bc these gauges were meant for the inline 6?

Re: Do i need new gauges now?

Are you using the same sending units on the motor? Sounds like you may have senders for idiot lights on the 350 where the 6 had senders made for gauges. i do not think there is a difference in the gauges from motor to motor other than the different pressures for the oil pressure which is either a 60lb or 80lb.

Truck has all new wiring, american autowire classic update...wired temp to temp sensor on the driver's side of the block, and the oil pressure is not electric so copper line going from the gauge to the block

The gauges are just measuring tools, they don't care if the water or oil in inside of a 6cyl or V8. Get the correct senders with 90 resistance

Again my oil pressure is a copper line from the block to the guage, the motor had an electric sensor but i took it off and went with the copper bc it was cheaper to do that than replace my gauge as well. And the temp gauge on the truck works and slowly climbs but its reading all the way on the H and i know im not overheating, new radiator, thermostat etc

LMC shows the same gauges for 67-72, no difference for 6 or 8 cylinder engines

Re: Do i need new gauges now?

The oil pump in the 350 is probably either not as worn out as the old inline pump was, or the 350 has a high volume or high pressure oil pump in it.

My 350 with a HV oil pump is pretty much pegged until it warms up a bit.

Re: Do i need new gauges now?

I went from a 6 to an 8 and my old gauges are still working. The oil pegging H when cold is normal. The gauge only goes to 60 and SBC's hit 60 when cold. Mine comes down at idle when warm, and up close to H when driving.

My temp gauge works, but does not go past about 1/3, so I agree you need another sender. I used the one that was in my 6, and just screwed it into the 8.
