Which carpet is correct?

I'm about to buy a new ACC carpet kit but I see there are two types of material, 100% nylon and 80/20 (nylon and rayon) blend.
Which one of these did our trucks come with originally?
I guess what I'm after is the most durable type that won't fade.
I'm not concerned about details, but want it to fit and look right.
Also, is it necessary to use heat shield, or just sound dampener?
Thanks in advance

Re: Which carpet is correct?

I'm 90% sure the original was the 80/20 loop. However, the nylon loop should look pretty close and probably be more durable (more resistant to fraying). I bought the 80/20 with mass backing from Rock Auto. It comes with heavy jute padding. I installed it over this stuff (http://www.homedepot.com/p/E-O-12-in...V516/100028603) which I read about here. I also bought the carpeted mats they make but needed to modify them slightly to fit better around the floor mounted accelerator on my '69.

I'm happy with the result.

Isn't that a little overkill with the mass back and the insulation. I bought the ACC mass back carpet too and figured with that I wouldn't need anything else. How does that insulation stick ?

I am not sure of options with ACC or other companies, but here is what my ACC kit looks like after a few years in the sun.

Probably! But, I figured it wouldn't hurt anything, and it was the inexpensive option of those I'd read about on this forum to reduce noise in the cab. I also installed it behind the gas tank and on the exposed side of the tank. I opted to not put it inside the doors due to my concern about potential moisture retention. It's hard to say if it helps much, but it did eliminate the metallic ringing sound when I tap on the back of the cab. It sticks very well.

Re: Which carpet is correct?

I am going with rear tank so plan on insulating the back wall and putting matching carpet over top of it, thats why i was asking about the stickiness of the insulation. I agree on the cost factor too, the specialty stuff is expensive.

Ok. In light of the afore mentioned fading issue, are there any brands out there that are guarenteed to not fade? Once I put the new carpet in, my truck will have its own stall in my garage,so outside storage won't be an issue, but I just don't want the fading to happen from just taking it out and around.

Re: Which carpet is correct?

After thinking about it, I guess it would be a stretch to ask a company to warantee against fading. I'll just be sure to keep the sunshade in when parked.

Re: Which carpet is correct?

Can someone explain what 80/20 means in this context? I have no idea. Is it the ratio of loops cut or the mix of nylon, or ???

My Bonneville Brougham has "cut pile" carpet, which is plusher but wears worse, I imagine. It's a weird Brougham-only option, everything else is loop.
