I HAVE STARTED A THREAD ON OUR TRIP HERE:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=653025

It's under the events section, but I hope to get to see and meet many of the forum names in real life at Clem's Party. As this looks like it is going to be the best year yet.

BRET !!

Thanks for picking up these Blue trucks for us, despite Andy wanting extortionate storage and handling fees......

The Narrator has said that Andy needs to "just wait a minute" he knows the letter of the law, and extortionate storage fees cannot be tolerated......

We have an enforcer here.

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Last night Rian and I met midway between our places, dumped his car, then drove over to Russell the paraplegic former fire fighter who now is one of my regular customers, that I do hand control conversions for.
Russell toy fitted with hand controls for track days
And... BOY CAN HE DRIVE

When we got to Russell's place and got out, I realised that in the haste to swop cars at home, I left all the adjusting blocks in the Mondeo, so we raced back, fetched and returned.

Russell had bought 150mm bolts, so I needed to cut down 26 of them, while Rian removed the existing feet and started to fit the adapters.

Next up Russell had to test drive the new, higher seating position.

He was a happy man.

SMOKIN'...... !!!

Firemen are like military personnel in my view, they usually serve unquestioningly, so the least one could do is befriend them, and help in real tangible ways, rather than dropping coins into a collection tin somewhere when you know they never get the help or friendship they really need.

When we were there, it became apparent again, just how badly we all need to be needed.

Russell lives alone, often seeing nobody for weeks on end. While we were there, he spoke about Nip Nip who was his house rabbit that died recently, he was ripped up about it, and then one realises, he was a responsible person before, having had a family etc, they have all left him, and all he had responsibility for, making him feel worthwhile, was this rabbit.........

Martin mentioned to me after I said I would make the adapters that Russell was shocked that we were prepared to do stuff for him, without dipping into his funds.

People need to care more, in more tangible ways.

Right....... I am off to go buy some travel to get to Clem's party with my buddy.

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Well I've made a start fitting the floor and inner rocker section .

First I cut out the rotten section

[IMG]http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g198/mx5martin/chevy%20c10/imagejpg6_zps8a689927.jpg[/IMG

All the rust removed

Trying the panel in place

After trying it in place I will then remove it . Then clean up the surrounding area . I will then Tac it in place before then turning the cab back over trying the rocker panel and hang the door before welding it all up

But before I can do that I am going over to Rian's place today to give him a hand . I will also be taking over the door to repair the small damage on it caused by someone trying about three mirrors on it over the years

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Well as I said earlier I was going to Rian's place this afternoon . The plan was to help him fit his lights and then do my door . After welding up all the holes that had been drilled for the mirrors

After welding the mirror holes the next job was to repair a rusty section at the bottom corner . First was to cut out the rot then make up a plate to weld in

After cutting out the rust on the outer skin I found a small amount on the inner skin so Rian cut out another piece of metal from my old front fender . He then shaped it to match

So the two plates were welded in to the door

So once again we worked as a team. I got my door done and Rian got his lights up. This included an outside lamp that I got from my mums installed with a pir detector to light up the path

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Well on Sunday while working at Rian's house We discussed the fact that it was very cold in my carport . So on the Monday I collected some second hand gates localy ready to fit them on Tuesday .
Tuesday morning I got a message from Rian to ask what I was doing and did I need a hand He had to go and collect his cutouts from Tonbridge which means passing my house to get there .
This was the temperature in the morning on the way

This picture shows the original wrought iron gates with no protection from the elements

The first thing we needed to do was to replace the damaged kick board .After a discussion we decided to increase the height of the gates by increasing the size of the kick boards

After increasing the height we Hung the gates

Note the tarpaulin to keep the weather out before the gates were fitted

The following day while Rian was stripping his truck .I finnished the gates off and fitted a roof from the carport to above the gates . Then painted them all that's left to do is fit some door furniture . I can now get on with the truck in warmer conditions

The finished gates

As always, we all have different skills, so it is fortunate to find someone who can fill the gaps, but sometimes it is just a matter of giving it a go, trying, and then surprising yourself when you succeed.

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

BONDO/BOG/FILLER/PLOD is the friend of every good body worker ehhh??

Took the door parts off today, including the door panels..... first surprise was not being able to unscrew one of the screws on the drivers side, followed by another 5 on the passenger side. Lubricated them, not progress, then went and had a coffee with Martin when he pitched, after which he tried various bodyshop techniques, followed by me and Mr Drill, so I have a repair job ahead before I can get the panels back on.

Inside the door was surprise number one, indicating that a lot more pain awaits me......

Can you tell what it is yet?

Ohhh, and the red you see in the pic, is high density foam flooring, or a camping mat that some clever idiot glued a bunch of inside the doorskin as sound deadening.....

So then between Martin and I we continued to laugh, curse and be amazed at all the cockups as we unbolted bits, with bolts missing from the tailgate, some cross threaded bolts etc....

After we had undone a zillion nuts and bolts Martin made me remove the first fender, just to torture me.

While I was at the second fender, Martin was grunting, groaning and sounding like a walrus mating on a rocky beach..... "Where's your bloody rattle gun?" he grunted from below my feet, under the fender.

The bottom fender bolt was not letting up, a bit like some of the others we had already encountered.

Fetched the rattle gun and got on with what I was doing, heard ZZZZZRRT..!! Had Martin's head pop up, kinda like a ground hog.... Burger me !!! This thing works well.

Note the offending items deterioration.

Martin is upgrading the rear of his truck with park/indicator lights so made up a template using pencil, masking tape, which is then transferred to cardboard so he can mark out the rear of his truck before cutting the steel to fit the new lights.

SURPRISE !!!

We also removed the load body bolts, and I undid the fuel filler and overflow pipe Jubilee clips in preparation to remove the whole thing one my trolley comes back from under Martins engine and gearbox.

We called it a day quite early as we both had more stuff to do that had nothing to do with trucks.

End of a great day.

Now the work starts.

Thanks for the help mate.
