Hows the best way to clean up 72 door panels

Any help is appreciated, I don't want to scrub them so hard and lose the outer layer? Thanks Randy

Re: Hows the best way to clean up 72 door panels

I went through the same thing with my door panels a few months back. Here is the thread, the vinyl spray worked very well. I was surprised.

Hope it helps.

Re: Hows the best way to clean up 72 door panels

Wow yours turned out GREAT. Thanks for your help but I'm trying to keep this old truck all original, without doing any painting or upgrades, just wanting to clean it up some. Its kind of a barn find. Thanks Randy

Re: Hows the best way to clean up 72 door panels

Randy, There is some pad we bought at the grocery store that is foam-like on one side and a light scrubber on the other side. It works wonders on parchment door panels and vinyl. I was actually going to the store today and try to find it again, (i can't think of the name) because I am out and have some more DP's to clean. if i find it I will post the name. All of these are cleaned only not painted. .....Jason

Re: Hows the best way to clean up 72 door panels

I use Simple Green and a scrub brush, rinsing thoroughly after each washing. Sometimes it takes more then one scrubbing.

Re: Hows the best way to clean up 72 door panels

I did the spray myself and they panels turned out awesome. I used Dawn dishwashing detergent and a wash rag. I used an electric toothbrush on some of it to clean the crevices. I bought 2 cans from LMC for $25 and lots of elbow grease. You did a nice job on improving the appearance.

Re: Hows the best way to clean up 72 door panels

Now if you lived in the U.K Randy I'd suggest Flash floor cleaner, used neat that stuff cleans years of crap outta any surface without the need to scrub...wow, I sound like a commercial. "Just look at my floors"

I'd keep it simple, hot water to soften the dirt then neat dish washing soap to clean, more hot water to rinse.

Re: Hows the best way to clean up 72 door panels

Randy... I hope you got my voicemail, but we use Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, or the generic type of Dollar General.

They contain a strong enough formula to break through dirt and grime, without affecting the panel itself.

Use the pre-mixed Fantastic with bleach. Nothing that I know of can beat it.

Re: Hows the best way to clean up 72 door panels

I have those same exact door panels and they almost seem to be eroding away, seems like with much scrubbing they would wear down some. Its almost like they had a clear layer that wore away.

Randy I would try the Mr Clean magic erasers they work wonders on everything. Try one on some of your spare parts first just to make sure never had them hurt anything though

Re: Hows the best way to clean up 72 door panels

72 door panels? That's a ****load of door panels!! Just kidding, couldn't help it. I'm about to take a brush to my blue ones as well, but them I am painting them black (probably with something from Duplicolor, love their products) to go for a two tone look. Good cleaning info in here...I dig it.

That's caused by someone using too strong a cleaner in the past, like Spray 9. Those will need walnut shell blasting.
I have a different question I hope someone can answer...

Does anyone have a good way to get scuffs out? Not gouges, just mars or rub marks.

What can be done about scratches and even gouges?
