I'm putting an after market triple gauge on my 71 k-10. Just wondering where the original sender is located on the block(350). right now, mine only has the ind. light, not a gauge, if this matters? thanks

Is it hard to get at?? I know there isn't a lot of room back there....

It's not that hard to get to. You should be able to see it sticking up from the block back there. If you are going to a gauge, I hope it came with a sending unit too. Your warning light switch on there now won't work right with a gauge. You should get a new sending unit for gauges. They are cheap and should be able to be found at any parts store.

yeah, the gauges did come with sending units. so the nw should just screw right in where the old one was, right. Same thing for temp. sending unit (it's the one tucked just under the ex. manifold at the front, right?)......i think they will be easy....the ammeter may be a little tricky though.... thanks for the info guys

ok, i'm confused now...do trucks with gauges have an oip press. sending unit...i looked by the distributor on mine and all i see is a line that runs to the back of the gauge and reads back there...are some of them like mine and some witha sender on the engine

Nick, trucks like your's with a gauge have a different sender, cuz trucks that use a mech.gauge have a small hose that runs from the sender to the gauge. One's like mine, that just has the indicator light, only have a wire that connects the light and the sender...........i think..haha j/k!

from what i can see though, the hose connects directly to the block...i dont see a sender on the black...maybe i just overlooked it?

hmmm......as far as i know, but a may be wrong there isn't an actual "sender", I'm pretty sure the hose fills with oil and goes to the gauge. The pressure from the oil then moves the needle. I don't think there is any kind of "pump" or anyhting....unless it's inside the block??
I'm FAR from an expert on this......i've only had my truck for year......hopefully someone that knows for sure will reply to this, and then we'll both know, Nick! haha

i know that oil is actually pumped to the gauge...i learned taht yesterday when i disconnected the gauges and drove the truck...i pumped a quart of oil onto my foot...probably ruined the carpet...i'm just trying to figure out why my speedo is the only working gauge...

I just happened to have a picture of an oil sender that works with an idiot light, not the gauge style. As you can see it is WAY back there. This picture was taken of an engine on a stand in my garage. That is a side angle of a spade terminal sticking up out of the switch. The wire Jason71k10 is talking about connects there.

It is in the same spot, a mechanical guage has an oil line coming out of the same spot, and an electrical guage has the sending unit that also threads into the same spot. Hope that helps.

so there are 2 types of gauges and the light type that came on teh trucks?...beginning to undertsnad...its been too long since all my gauges worked and i'm trying to revive them
