20,800 rear spring nd 8,000lbs front spring. What does this mean for payload/GVWR?
My '67 C50 has two options: G56 : 20800-LB REAR SPRING
F92 : 8000-LB FRONT SPRING What does this have to do with my trucks 19,500 GVWR? I just can't figure this out? And how can you have 8,000lbs springs on a 5,000lbs axle, which is what I have. I don't understand how this play together. Anybody get it?  Thank you very much. |

I'm not real sure either, but my '67 GMC 7500 had something a little strange on it. The Tag read 9 Fronts and 22 Rears which should have been a GVW of 31,000, but the GVW Rating on it was stamped "27,500" ??

Even though your truck evidently has Heavier Springs on it, the law will go by what the Tag states. If you want a heavier allowance, you would most likely need it to be certified first. Bill

GVWR will always go by the lowest rating of the components in the system. 8k springs with a 5k axle will rate out at 5k. Same goes for the rear. If it were done the opposite way, (as they would look at it) it would 1. Open up the manufacturer to legal liability, and 2. create a safety issue. In that order.

I'm sorry, but that all sounds extremely suspicious on the part of GM. Offer the availability of heavier duty individual parts to increase trucks workload, but allow customers to leave with out other parts that render the upgrades physically and legally pointless?
hmmmm, I'm not meaning that you guys are wrong......but something smells extremely fishy here. At least I'm not the only person unclear on the topic.
