Smart Phone Recommendations

I have a cheap Android. I've never really liked it and now it's getting old and it's acting up on me. It still works but it does weird things. It won't send pictures anymore. If I use speaker phone it makes a weird noise and no one can hear each other. The email works half the time. It's a pile of junk and I'm sick of it.

Does anyone have one that they like? I was thinking of an iPhone 12 only because it's the new one (I think) I know nothing about these things. I just want one that works properly. This one I have now is frustrating. Thanks.

Samsung 10e is what I got. Realitively cheap for smart fone, but excellent camera and other workings.

I have never been a fan of anything Apple, so I'll reserve any derogatory comments about them.

Re: Smart Phone Recommendations

Ive had a lot of smart phones. Very important in my line of work (retired from now). I too stayed away from Apple, but for no good reason except ... Ok no actual good reason.

I had Samsung Galaxie and Google Pixles. Android applications. One day when I was clearing my history I came across a recording of my son and I talking. We werent on the phone chit chatting. I think we were in my little shop, phones were on my bench charging. Then I did a deep dive on, google and android and privacy.

I switched to apple and never looked back. My ten plus is still working great so I skipped the 11 upgrade and Ill probably skip the 12 upgrade. It does everything I want these days.

Im not sure why but a lot of people hate apple because its apple. I dont use apple computers because I cant see spending that kind of money. I stay away from anything google or android as much as possible. But its probably futile this day and age.

In the end though, you would be well served by either brands ... we all have our personal preferences.

Re: Smart Phone Recommendations

I'm no authority by any means, recently ran over my I-phone 5S with a trailer tire.
The dumb thing still worked but repairs were going to be more than it was worth.
Bought an I-phone 10 from my son's friend that went for a 12, and so far I love it.
Missed the button for a little while but now am used to swiping, camera is outstanding.

Re: Smart Phone Recommendations

I went from a Samsung droid to an iPhone 11 . Had to as my screen cracked so bad the phone was doing weird things . The last straw was when I constantly called a number in France. Dont know anyone there so I baffled where the number came from.

My Goldwing doesn't support droid systems so I got the 11. It's been a learning experience but I got the hang of it . I also have Mac 11 years old works like new never had a virus or malware.

Re: Smart Phone Recommendations

I’m an iPhone guy myself. I’ve had most every generation since iPhone 5. Never had any major issues other than an occasional cracked screen which is a pretty cheap fix at an Apple store. I find people who hate them have never actually had one, seems most who switch to the iPhone don’t leave very often. My dad and a few of my brothers have galaxy’s and always seem to have issues after a year or two. My original IPhone 5 from near 10 years ago still works flawlessly.

I've had iPhone ever since I went to a smart phone. You can't beat them. It's like everything else though, there is nothing perfect about any of them it just depends on the price at the time and how it looks. 99% of my pictures on here are taken with it.

I am no authority on anything tech.

I have a Samsung Galaxie A20. About $150 bucks at Wal Mart.

I use Straight Talk service. I pay $49.95 per month with unlimited everything and no hidden charges. I am very happy with the service.

I haven't tinkered on newer generations, but back @ about 5ish range the parts to repair a broken glass shipped to the front door were about 35 bucks. The job itself was a little fiddly but doable easily enough. I currently carry a XR with a broken front glass!

I saw my daughters iPhone. It was all smashed up. It looked like it had been through the war and lost. She said it worked fine. She still has it.

I on the other hand can't throw stones. I lost my last phone by getting in a Jacuzzi with my phone in my pocket. Don't do that. It's a bad idea.

I'm thinking Samsung or iPhone. I'll ask my wife. She has the brains. Except when it comes to men. After all she married me.

I had a Samsung for a long time, but went back to an iPhone 11Pro. Great phone, but it is expensive. I don’t really care, cuz I got more money than I know what to do with. Haha!
Samsung’s are really good too. I think the camera is a bit better on the iPhone. These phones have so many features, it’s hard to keep up.

Droid and Apple are both exoensive but very high quality and long lasting phones. I havent had an apple since an S6 but am loving these Galaxys from Samsung. Have had charging ports fail after 2 years or so but I have that fixed locally for under 50 dollars.

My limited experience with cell phones is when it starts acting up and doing funny things, it is on its way out. One day it will just stop working. I think it is planned obsolescence. I also hate the auto correct on my phone and I hate the tiny little keyboard thingy to text. I have man hands, seems like they were designed for 10 year old little fingers.

Can you turn your phone sideways to text? I do that and it makes the keyboard larger.

I like the Samsung phone. But I bought a Samsung washer and dryer and they've both broken twice in two years. I don't know if that's relevant in this case because I have no idea if the phones and the appliances have anything to do with each other. I just don't like the name after paying repair bills. The guy that fixed my washer and dryer said that the Samsung's were junk. And they cost me a lot of money. They weren't cheap. I bought the top of the line and have had nothing but trouble with them. Like I said. I don't know if the two are related other than being owned by the same corporation.

It is hard to keep up. We just got a new car and I can't even figure out how to get the sound system to work. It's too complicated for me. So no music I just listen to the motor. Which is fine with me.

I have big hands too. I hate to text. I always mess up. My youngest daughter keeps texting me and I tell her to knock it off. Just call me. She won't. She's just like her mother.

Just got my refund on a 5 year old Samsung fridge that was nothing but trouble from the beginning. 2800 dollar fridge. 5 years of $hit and finally a full refund from the company ( this was a process ). There is a class action lawsuit against them now for this very problem listing the model number of my fridge. The design hasn't been fixed and they still sell the same bad design new today ( ice maker doesn't work, wide swinging temperatures, completely failed once ruining all food ).

Samsung Refrig. Recall Group on FB ( instructions how to get your refund and maybe help you avoid buying one of these things):

Re: Smart Phone Recommendations

I have only had 3 smart phones , the 1rst one 4 years ago , it was a Samsung Galaxy that worked well except for all the ads on it , then it died completely with no warning . About $175 later I had another one just like it , the ads were even worse on it than the 1rst one and it also would randomly play music (not my style either ) while laying idly by itself on my kitchen table . Then ads would pop up as my phone rang preventing me from taking the call . I now have an expensive Iphone which works great , no ads and no random music .

Re: Smart Phone Recommendations

I bought my first smart phone last year, never had use for them, and still don't for the most part. So I can't speak for technology. But I bought a big screenthat probably does everything, and it suits me fine, $170 for the phone and $30 for service. Huawei. Android, for what it's worth.

Just my opinion, the services make it sound like you're getting a great deal with the most bestest phone ever paid monthly, but end of the day paying WAY too much. I guess it depends on your priorities.

Re: Smart Phone Recommendations

I currently use an Apple iPad for work and I have a moto g for personal use. I like them both. I think u will find that most all these phones do way more than we will actually need or use. I’ve have the Samsung galaxy line. They were good but I paid more for them than I did the Motorola. I have noticed that the older Apple phones were kinda small compared to the droid counterparts. At 1 time, the Apple apps were limited n the free dept., but with time has come some change and they are getting more apps now. U can get more out of an Apple phone than a droid if/when u trade it n. But I didn’t give 1/2 what an I phone sells for and if i keep it till it gives trouble, then I got my money’s worth. Get what u like Paul. Just ask yourself what u want it to do. Example...u take a lot of photos at car shows. Get 1 with a great camera. Can’t disagree with your daughter....like to text more than talk With these newer models.
