Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

Picked the drill and tap up today. 23/64 drill and a 7/16-14 tap. The AZ website shows the spindle removed. Thought I would try and save some time and leave it on. Worked out well. Drill the two stock holes for the dust covers as instructed and made sure to use some cutting oil. In the case of the 2.5 drop CPP spindle the holes go all the way through, so I followed suit.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

Next was the part I was dreading the worst. The AZ site recommends using a bandsaw to cut the spindle ears off to accommodate the new caliper bracket that will utilize the holes I just drilled and tapped. Don't have a band saw and wasn't going to try a cutting wheel. So I used a sawsall. Worked very well, just took some muscle to get through it. I made sure I was cutting out what I needed by basically holding the bracket up to the spindle and make sure all the bolts and caliper had clearance. Once I got it all cut out. I took a small die grinder and smoothed out the edges that were left from the cutting. Bolt the bracket in place and ready to call it a night for now.

Looks good. I would round those sharp corners where you sawsalled the spindles.

I did, just wanted to check fitting. I went back and actually rolled all the edges top to bottom. Thanks for the input.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

Finally got back on it last night. Welded the brake line brackets to the rear end. Cleaned them up with a grinder a little. Wiped it down really well and applied DP90 is a satin black epoxy primer and then went back shot it with single stage gloss black. Hopefully this weekend I will get it under the truck.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

Hoping to get a lot done this weekend. I wanted to paint the calipers black. Red isn't for me, and I didn't want to try and keep aluminum surface and plated brackets clean. I worked for a brake manufacturer for 20 years and plating only last so long, before it starts looking bad. So paint it was. Also, I am huge Schwinn Stingray nut and I have several Schwinn's that I haul in the back to shows. Namely a 78 Schwinn Stingray that is painted up to match the truck with matching houndstooth seat and a restored 71 Schwinn Stingray Grey Ghost. So I incorporated the Schwinn logo that's on the seat to the front calipers. So that's enough about my bicycles. Planning on hitting it hard this weekend, so stay tuned.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

Great write up Casey and really appreciate you taking the time to do this. I like your custom work on the calipers and is a nice touch. Glad you like the kit. I am subscribed and look forward to even more updates.

Thanks again for the business. As always, if you need anything, just let me know.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

Worked Saturday and got the front end completed, bled, etc. Didn't take the amount of photos I wanted. but at this point, it's pretty straight forward. Coat the spindle shaft with some light grease and install the pre-pack bearing and hub assembly, following the instruction to seat properly, tighten castle nut and install cotter pin - all included. Installing the dust cover cap takes a little love with a rubber mallet to seat the rubber seal which I'm not complaining because I know nothing is getting in. The kit comes with some shim spacers for the caliper support bracket to spindle caliper bracket this to center up the bracket over the rotor. I am sure with all the different spindles out there, they saw some variation between thicknesses. Personally, I would separate the bracket and caliper to do this, much easier to judge position, since the caliper floats. Once centered torque it all down connect brake line connected and bleed. So here are the pics from that.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

The rear was a little more labor intensive since I was exchanging complete rear end. Again, once the brackets were installed on rear diff. it was bolt on and go.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

Got everything wrapped up and took the truck out seating the brake pads per instructions provided and then maybe drove 15 miles yesterday checking pedal feel, etc. Absolutely love it. Everything in the kit that was needed was provided and no trips to the local parts store for anything other than brake fluid and the differential fluid I needed due to the rear diff exchange. So money wise, it's a lot cheaper kit than going with full Wilwood or Baer outfit, slightly more expensive than CPP, by maybe 300 dollars. Plus you get the benefit of 14" rotors over the 13" / 12" kit from CPP. The parking brake cables provided work great and were easy to install to the existing front cables already on the truck. If you look through my truck build I tend to brag on a good product and cuss some of the worse stuff I have tried. No disappointments here.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

Looks great behind those wheels, and like how you painted the anchor brackets and rotors black. When shimming the front caliper, you'll want to center the anchor bracket over the rotor, and then the caliper floats accordingly. Usually it ends up being really close out of the box.

Again, thanks for the great write up and review.

That would be a good problem to have. I was really happy with how it stopped. With these huge brakes, I may want to upgrade my crate 350.
