Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy

I took the last week off from working on the truck; it was Woodward Dream cruise week plus I had some family socializing to do - but - last night I was able to get back outside and painted the cab back (on the inside of the cab):

Looks like I didn't have a good "before" pic; these are the "after" pictures (in case that's not obvious) -

Busy, busy, busy....

I'm ready to start on the IP and kick panels in the interior and still need to do something with the box. Plus - I've been a little distracted mounting a trailer hitch on the Grand Prix (...I saw a setup at the Dream Cruise I liked and so I have been motivated to get that going...).

I'm working on that too, but I'm leaning towards either a DIY spray in or plain ol' rustoleum.

So basically the list is:

a) Truck interior
b) Pickup box
c) Grand Prix trailer hitch
d) everything else...

I think they all do that eventually. Mine hase a Rino linng in it and you can grab a corner and pull big sheets off. Once my truck gets painted I'm going to get it redone. Even though it is now comming off it sure protected the bed. Once I get it redone I'll probably put a bed mat in it as well.

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy

Makin' some more headway...

Here's the bottom of the dash painted and the kick panels painted (and the kickpanel plastic cleaned up):

Also got the pedals painted black and new pads installed:

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy

Got the IP top pad installed:

I repainted the silver around the outside of that trim piece, as well as taking the vents completely apart, wiping them all down and spraying the outside of the vent argent silver.

and the cluster bezel installed:

The cluster bezel is pretty much untouched other than a thorough cleaning and painting the vent as described above.

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy

Since I'm here, I wanted to make a couple more observations about the ash tray. While I had it out (...again...) I installed new springs and bumpers. I was not able to find springs specifically for '73 - '87 in the catalogs, so I ordered some for '88 and up. They seemed to work fine.

Also - a 1" socket is a nice fit for those of you who would like your cigarette lighter nice and tight:

I'm heading back outside to see what I can do about that floormat!

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy

I love your idea with painting the silver on the bezel and vents! I see you have a pickup box on the list. Im assuming a tool box for the bed? I have a diamond plated one f/s, cheap. $75 if youre interested.

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy

Looking good Keith. Your truck is really one of a kind. Those gauges look great, i'd like to find a set like that with the tach and the small fuel gauge. A V6, 4 speed OD manual trans, A/C, cruise, pulse wipers. I have not seen anything even close to that. My '82 had a inline 6 and the same trans but that was it, nothing else. Your truck is damn cool in my book

LOL! No, it's a 16 gallon tank, so you only need about 12 gallons before the needle does that...
