Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build

Sounds like a good thing for me to do in Auto sometime once I get the wheel. Did you use the installation kit or no?

Yeah I bought the cheaper $20 installation kit. I wanted the black billet one but $60 was out of the question.

Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build

Spraying your own bedliner, really sucks.

middle of prep

gettin the first coat done

done

This took forever, and I don't wanna know how long it'd take to roll it on.

The tailgate latch area and the spot under it is getting painted body color when the door jambs get painted.

Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build

How long did it take to spray it on cause it looks good. Did you also do the tailgate too? I may get my floor and the fender wells done in this.

Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build

Thanks.

Yeah I did the tailgate too, just took it off to do it and tape off the bed.

Uhh, I'd say it took ~4 hours to prep. Then another 2-2.5 hours to spray maybe. It took all day. But it looks like I paid someone to do it I need to get some real camera pics of it out in the sun.

And if you do it, get some gloves, this stuff will NOT come off my hands. I've tried all kinds of stuff, lacquer thinner, wax and grease remover, prep solve, some stuff called krud kutter, wd 40, gojo, dish soap.

I may just do it.

Have you thought about kerosene or gasoline?

I have $160 in materials altogether. Bought the kit with a gallon and roller and brushes(didn't need them but needed the gallon), then bought an extra quart, then bought the gun, and a small thing of lacquer thinner.

Go for it, just set aside some time.

Haven't tried those but I will.

After you try those, you can use Listerene mouthwash to get the smell off your hands.

Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build

Yeah an Assassin 8".
Something to play with while I save for the big build -
2 DD 2515's with a RF T1k per sub in a 4th order blowthrough.
The 8's going in a little downfire center console type box over the tranny hump. That way I can gave a cupholder, changeholder, and a little bass lol.

Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build

4th order is the style of enclosure, a 4th order bandpass. And yeah a blowthrough is where you cut a hole in the back of the cab and front of the bed. I'm using aero ports so I won't have to cut a massive hole, just a few 4 or 6 inch holes.

Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build

Yeah, I'm a little scared lol. But wth it's not like I'm building the truck to sell it, I'm building it for me.

The doors have a set of Qlogic pods on them with a set of RF 6.5" Punch components and the kick panels have a set of Qlogic kick panels with a set of RF 5.25" FNP components. They work decent and save me lots of time in fiberglass, especially since I've never done it lol.

The components will probably get swapped out eventually, I want to run a 3 way active front stage, but that will come later on.

Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build

nice, you have any pics of them installed? i probably wont do anything crazy with the audio in my truck but maybe some kickpanel speakers. ill put some 6x9 in the cab corners behing the seat, new speakers in dash and a shallow sub.. maybe that P3 Shallow 12 i think RF sells.

How did you mount your headunit? is there a kit u buy or just cut the dash with the dimensions of the DIN and slide it in?

Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build

I don't, but I've been meaning to. Been too lazy lol.

Yeah I just cut my dash, I need to get some pics of the headunit too. I wasn't worried about saving the dash, since everything I'm gonna drive is going to have a nice head unit.

I keep forgetting to get pics of everything. I'll get pics of it all tomorrow.

I thought I took more of the 8" box.

Here it is in the box though.

Yeah it's in and playing now. Sounds really good. More than I expected from a single 8 firing down towards the floor. Plus it has 2 6.5's, 2 5.25's, and 6 tweeters to compete with. I'm pretty happy with it and it'll hold me over till I can afford to buy another T1000.1 and a pair of DD 2515's
