Check out this link for any plate you need you send him your plate info, color and state and he will send you brand new plates. I have a buddy in Ca that has them on Two restored cars. Its cool because you take a new DMV issued plate (ugly White) and he will give you Balck/yellow or Blue/Yellow or what ever vintage plate your state had? On a nice restored car/truck nobodys knows the differance and its not breaking any laws??

In this "nanny state" I'm pretty sure you aren't suppose to alter your license plates, but I imagine it would take a very attentive (maybe over attentive) law enforcement official to notice. Of course these days (at least in my area) they all seem VERY over attentive!!!!

i havent actually checked, but when i bought my '67, i wanted to put an old PA plate on it, and the lady at the DMV said, she could re-issue the plate for me, but once penndot(pennsylvana department of transportation) saw it, they would issue me a new plate. sory of sucky if you ask me. like the trucks exempt from some of the state inspection, but i can't run an old plate?? and she also said that i could get antique/classic plates because i have a 3" body lift. welcome to PA, where everything is a PITA.

I dont see any way your breaking the law in Ca its still the number issused from the DMV just a differant color? but the corect one for the year of the car. The offical would have to know leter count to catch it??

Anyone know the rules on South Carolina? I live in Ga but my truck is registered in SC. so i probably could get away with it as long as i kept my other tags up to date.

I'm running a set on my 63 Nova, 68 K20 and the 70 GMC and got a set for my dad's 69 Camaro and just took the set off of the 67 Chevelle I sold.

All legal like in South Dakota, the only registration I pay is on my motorcycle (it's new.)

The red letter 67 plates were replacement DMV plates for that year. My original 70 plates have blue letters and the replacement plates had light green letters. I don't know why they were different colors. I'm pretty sure you can use either when you register as a classic or antique.

Also, if you haven't registered your YOM plates in Texas yet, you only have til Sept. 1. 2011 to register them. http://www.texasyom.com/2011

Yup, I run vintage truck plates on mine also. As VA72C10 said, I don't have mine setup for daily use either. I even have the add on '70 county plate for mine.

Your welcome! The specialty plates are just new plates that have "classic" or "antique" printed on them. They are the plates you would normally get with classic or antique registration

So you NC guys... I wanna cheat a bit here. I have a 69 C10 which has a 68 front clip sans markers, and the bed is sans markers ergo making the truck appear to be a 67... I have a 67 NC plate so can I put that on my truck but keep the "real" one in the console or what have you? Biggest question is can I run a 67 plate with a 69 title? Or do I need a 69 plate? I'd hate to use the 69 plate on this truck, it would kill the whole look...

By law you are supposed to run a plate from the year of the vehicle (1969 in your case). I can send you a copy of the law when I get home tonight, just send me a reminder if you don't mind.

With that said, I have a 1969 car plate on my truck and have never gotten pulled over for it. I keep a copy of the law and the real plate in my glovebox.

I picked these up on eBay this week. In Kansas, the two letters on the left represent the county. I grew up in Riley county and have been looking for a RL truck plate for a while. I like the lower number on the first plate, but the other is in better shape. Not sure which one I'm going to use.

I checked with DMV and it's a one-time $40 fee to use as your regular plate.

That is how Maryland does it too. Vehicle has to be registered historic. Then an additional registration is needed to run the vintage plates. Have done that on a few of my GTO's. Cops never give me grief. Even when I drive it during the week. Which you are not supposed to do.

Here is a bit of nostalgia. My '69 stepper was originally a North Carolina farm truck. Sat in a barn forgotten for 25 years, etc .... When I bought it the owner gave me the original NC "Farm Truck" tags. One sits on my dash since I cannot register the out of state plates.
