255/70/15 rears, ?????? For the front

Need a little help.

I have 255/70/15 on the rear of my 68 and 215/75/15 on the front.

Looking to fill the front up a little but don’t know what tire size would look best with my rear tires. I have 2 15 x 8 wheels already. Thinking maybe 235/70/15 for the fronts.

Can anyone with 255/70/15 rears post up some photos and what you have on the fronts.

I like a little ol school rubber rake on the truck if that info helps any.

Thanks

Re: 255/70/15 rears, ?????? For the front

I've got a stock height 71 GMC with 8 inch Rallys. I put 225 70 15 on the front and 255 70 15 rears. With the proposed future drop I think that should be perfect.

Re: 255/70/15 rears, ?????? For the front

I’ve got a 3/5 static drop on the truck currently. Don’t see me going much lower.

I prefer the ol school rubber rake and I want to fill out the front fender wells.

Here’s a photo of the current set up. Some folks tell me to leave it alone like it is. I like the stance. Just don’t like the open wheel wells.

Re: 255/70/15 rears, ?????? For the front

I have 4.5"/7" drop on my '69 short step. I have a 235 55 17 on the front which is 27" tall and is perfect I think. I have 275 55 17 on rear which are 29" tall and same as the 255 70 15.

The 225 70 15 is virtually the same height as the 235 55 17, but I think the 235 is a SLIGHTLY better fit on the 8" rim.

You will have a tic more rake with the 225, but either will get you along to more than you have now.

I really like the tire set up you have already. That is exactly the tire sizes I was planning for my 67 stepper.

Yeah, lots of folks like the current set up/stance Goldilocks has now.

I was thinking 235/70/15’s. Hoping someone out there has a photo of that size with a 3” drop so I can see what it looks like before I spend the money and scared I don’t like it. Lol

215 75 same height as 225 70, so I think you WILL be happy with the 235 70 which is right at 28” tall.

You can always do 2 1/2” disc drop spindles and a 1” spring to fill the gap and add a 1” block to the rear...

I have 235/70/15 up front with 275/60/15 rear, but doesn’t give you the look your going for since I have 4.5/6” drop stance. At least it will give you an idea how it would look if you dropped another inch.

Those pictures are very helpful for me at least. I've been planning to put Torq Thrusts on my truck and now I have a perfect image of how they will look. They'll look great apparently.

BTW, I have 275/60-15 all the way around.

Not sure how much drop I supposedly put in (what the kit said it would provide), but it originally had the HD suspension and sat up like a 4x4 so the actual drop was around 6 inches at both ends measured from where it was stock, a little more at front than the rear. Actually, after my original drop the front was too low, hardly any suspension travel left at the front and caused really weird steering geometry since I used modified lower control arms. I eventually replaced them with stock control arms and drop springs and trimmed down bump stops. Still don't have a lot of downward travel but it at least doesn't bottom out the suspension anymore.

How wide are those 275's you have on the rear?
I am having a heck of a time finding 13" wide tires for my 12" wide Mickey Thompson rims on my C-10. Currently have a good set of bias ply's on the truck but need to upgrade. A PO has tubbed the rear for the rims and the offset of those rims. I like the look and do not want to change the stance or rear appearance.

The wheel width on the rear is 8”.

I like the 15” Wheels, but I alway's wonder if I should have gone with 17 or 18”

Personally I like the look of a bit of tire. If you continue to use it as a truck (hauling, a little rougher use than a car) taller tires can only help absorb bumps and bruises. Helps with ride quality too. Big wheels with the smallish looking stock brakes make things look odd, lots of open space in the wheel windows. I have 17s on my wagon but I still stuck with 45 profile tires to keep some meat in the wheel wells. Not a fan of rubber band tires. Just my opinion of course.

Love that truck. Great stance and look.

These photos help a lot. Thanks for providing them. Gives me an idea of how much it will fill in the gap. Thinking 235/70. Got 255/70 in the rears. That combo should give me about a 1” rubber rake. I think I’m really trying to fill in the well some but not too close to rub or scrub.

Ditto on the sidewalk rubber. Too skinny doesn’t look right to me on these trucks. Just my opinion.

Re: 255/70/15 rears, ?????? For the front

Here is my '69. It is a leaf spring truck that is flipped in the rear for 7" (7 1/4" as measured from center of axle to bottom of wheel well) with 275 55 17 on 17x9 5" backspace (zero offset) wheels.

Front is 2 1/2" disc conversion spindles and 2" drop spring for 4.5" drop. Fronts are 235 55 17 on 17x8 4" backspace (also zero offset) wheels.

I am THRILLED with the 17" rims and would do that again. In the rear I switched to the 71-72 wider axle housing to get right spacing for the wheels. I think they have plenty of rubber with the 55 series.

My opinion about which trucks look the best are that they didn't do too wide a wheel/tire combo in the front. And I like a little rake as well.

That's the only issue with lowered 6” in the rear and 15” wheels. Scrub line. If I have a flat, I’ll be sitting on the suspension not the rear wheel.
