warn winch bumper

Here are a few pics and sizes of my nos bumper.
I'm terrible at this sorta thing so bear with me and if there is any questions please ask.
Starting off with the paper.
I began doing this outside but the sun was not playing along nicely at all.
The mount brackets are still steel banded too the bumper itself I didn't want to cut them off yet for obvious reasons.

All the materials used were 1/4" except the diamond plate tops that are 3/16" and so is the formed channel that makes the bumper ends.

Re: warn winch bumper

Ok great upside down, well most my pics were taken with the phone sideways like usuall never had upside downs though.
Little better.

Top plates.
These actually go under the top lip of the channel I only had them clamped on in the pic above.

Re: warn winch bumper

If you ask me this certainly isn't the strongest of bumpers but it can be worked with and for those of you that recreate this can make it much stronger.

I never realized how difficult it is too hold a tape and take steady pics.

Doing this from a phone and 5 pic at a time thing is a kicker.

Re: warn winch bumper

I'm sure to double post a pic or too at anytime here.

So far we have the measurements of the top plates and yes only one side as the other is just mirrored.
The center plate on the face where the fair lead mounts is 8" tall.
I missed a pic of it.

Re: warn winch bumper

Wow just deleted a whole post lol...pita.

So the dimensions of the 1/4" thick center plate flattened out as plate steel would be 16 3/4"wide x 28"long.
Bent with a 9" leg at the bottom and the vertical fair lead leg is 8 tall".
Ok at the end I will recap all measurements.as my first post was wrong it's all made from 1/4" steel. I don't recall if that's 4 or 6 ga.

On too the mounting brackets
That are basically 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" angle @ 17 3/4" long

Hopefully most of us can read a tape that's not starting at
"The hook"
Now the end with the angle.
It starts 2" from the end and is 2" deep so it ends 4" from the
Atcual end of the channel.
Pretty sure that puts us rite about a 60 degree angle.

On too the 1 1/2" x 5" channel

Re: warn winch bumper

While laying on its flat on the fair lead face the ends of the channel are 6" off the floor there is a small curve at the end of each channel ends but I'm pretty sure at 6" that puts the channel at a 10 degree angle from the center plate.
This is shown in the pic with the speed square.
*
The channel is approximately 23 1/2" long on each side.

At this time no.
I have been in collecting mode for my k 20 for a while and this became part of the collection for it.

Will I use it? Well that's up in the air yet.
As I'm gonna see if I can make it work with the 71 grill guard and tow hooks.
If i can't then perhaps I'll sell it when i start selling off my hoard of parts that I won't be useing.

Just posting this since a few members asked for sizeing, just hope everyone can follow along with my mumbo jumbo.

Re: warn winch bumper

Ok so we have.
A 1/4" thick center plate at 16 3/4" x 28" .
With a 90 degree angle in it with a 7 3/4" leg (bottom) and 8" leg for the fair lead face.

Two peices of 1/4" thick 1 1/2" x 5" c channel at 23 1/2" long.

This gives an overall length of Just about 74" considering the channels are at about a 10 degree angle from the face plate which is where the give or take 1" went.

Two 1/4" thick peices of 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" angle @17 3/4" long.

There is two 1/4" thick 1" wide x 7" long braces for the face.
I'm gonna guess these are set up and welded on spec for warn winches if you don't use a warn these could vary in placement..

Also two 1/4" x 1 1/2" 12" long straps that run at a angle from the channel too the center plate too support the channel ends.

Keep in mind this is not the normal c channel with the tapered "c" ends like I beam would have but looks too be all steel bent on a brake or stamped.
Same as the angle peices it is not "angle iron" so we used too call it. It is "braked" or "stamped".

I didn't lay out any drilled holes for the fact that most of them would be pretty explanatory once lined up with a truck or "your winch.
But if anyone would like I will get lay outs for them also.

I worked in a steel shop for a good while sawing and machining all kinds of steel and usually peices like these were all bent on a huge brake press.

If there is anything I missed or anything else please ask.
I will try.

Re: warn winch bumper

Thanks alot! very detailed description, I know it took a fair amount of time & I appreciate it! I agree, it looks like the "C" channels were stamped. I don't want to use stock channel, won't look right. Will get the metal shop to brake the radius then I'll form the curved ends.

Re: warn winch bumper

Your welcome fellas.

I took some rite side ups of the paper under a piece of glass too help flatten it out just for easier veiwing.

Also in some of the pics I've seen of these bumpers they could of been ordered with "housings" for the turn sig/driving lites for 71-72.
Boo hoo I don't have them.
I do have two beutiful 71-72 bumpers here and a few sets of extra lites but I picked these up too use with this bumper but no mounting for them yet and I'm not gonna cut ovals into the bumper even though that would look best.

Sure.
Tommarow evening more bracket pics coming.

It really woulda been cool if I got the box it came in.
The fella I got it from at the swap meet said the box with the bumper in it sat in a wet/damp basement for a long time and ruined the box.

I walked by this three times that day and didn't notice it.
We were ready too leave and I saw it at the last Stand on the way out at the end of the day.
He was happy too sell it and sold it cheap as most of us know it blows hauling storing big heavy parts that we really don't want.

Re: warn winch bumper

FWIW, It looks like the Warn bumpers had optional lights for mounting on a 71 or 72.....I had one of these bumpers and a vintage winch that I sold to a board member last year.... But I did not have the cool Warn light kit.....

Still have it! I purchased a 72 Blazer Highlander off the board last year and plan on using it on there.

Re: warn winch bumper

Sorry man,
I took these last weekend but I didn't like how any of the pics turned out.
last weekend i put the bumper back into storage in my basement boiler room and the lighting isn't the greatest in there.

So I did unband one bracket and put it on the garage work bench the (one spot where nothing ever gets done), just too take better pics, but it's been "one of those weeks" now with the storm here I have some idle time too post'em.

But here is a few more....some may be dup's.

Those turn signal housings are cool.
I would much rather be able too use the oe bumper lights than what I posted......if anyone has any detailed pics of them perhaps I could just bend some up.

I don't have these pics in any particular order so dup's are sure too come.
