2007 GMC Sierra Classic Vortec Max 2WD DD

I generally try and document my builds on this site, so I'll put this one in here. I've never owned a GMT800 before. I've driven many over the years, but never owned my own. I spend most of my time on the 47-59, 73-87, and 88-98 parts of the forum.

I have wanted a Vortec Max 2WD since I learned of their existence about 10 years ago. Kind of like an updated 454SS pickup, with 2 more doors and better mpg.

After I sold my 60K original 1989 K5 the search was on for an 88-98 RCSB or a 2WD Vortec Max...as you can see, I found the later first.

So far I have been over the interior twice, probably hit it one more time just to make it "right" for me. Cleaned it up with a clay bar, laid down a pinstripe, and waxed it. Spent some time with some 0000 steel wool and some Mothers polish on the Corsa stainless tip...shame one the previous owner, I don't think it's ever been cleaned up. I think I'll put in a new set of iridium plugs and and AC Delco wires, change the tranny fluid/filter/pan, service the rear differential, and a simple oil change. Then it needs to go to my tuner to get juiced...it shut off at 98mph...so it has not been tuned I'm guessing. That amazes me, this thing runs awesome as is. I've "heard" it does effortless burnouts..."heard".

I have splash guards, all weather floor matts, side window deflectors, and new taillights ordered for it. Needs a different set of wheels/tires.

I'm pleased, really needed to clean it up and put a pinstripe on it to see what I was working with. It will probably get the rear blocks pulled and a 2" drop spindle up front.

For those of you not familiar with these pickups, it sits on a 4wd chassis, so it has a torsion bar front end instead of coil springs. They come with the LQ9 345hp 6.0L, 4L70E transmission, and a 14 bolt SF axle. This one is equipped with SLT interior and has 3.73 gears, Corsa exhaust, and a GMPP cold air setup.

Thanks Bill! This is the first one in a long time I haven't had to build my own exhaust. That will be new! I'm with you, I wish it was white, but finding the options I wanted in a 2WD puts me into a situation where "beggers can't be choosers!" At least it's not black.

I'm pretty darn excited to see what aknovaman can do to the tune on this thing, he has always surpased my expectations in the past.

Re: 2007 GMC Sierra Classic Vortec Max 2WD DD

Well new wheels/tires(cheaper to buy new take offs than replace the tires alone), side window deflectors, splash guards, an oil change, and I dropped it off to be aligned today.

New taillights were just dropped off. Still planning to do the tranny fluid/filter/pan, plugs/wires, and I will probably service the rearend for good measure. Really enjoying driving this pickup, moreso than my K5 which is a good sign, maybe I will keep this one for awhile!

Trying to decide on whether or not I want to put some side steps on it. Still need to find a factory grill to color match and swap out with the billet/chrome unit on there.

Looks good I have always wondered what the max was. I always just thought it meant the 6.0 and that was it. Like the new wheels too.
