My first 235 build woes

Well after a few months of getting my 54 overhauled and and measuring and assembling, I finally had it painted Chevy orange (for now) and ready to drop in my 53. I had it modified for full oil filtering from inliners but totally overlooked the fact that the machinists didn't drill the return line big enough to 3/8 so it's still 1/8 and too small for all the return pressure from the filter. Fudge! So she's gotta come apart now. Live and learn. I was hoping to break her in this weekend...


Update Q: what would happen if my oil to filter was 3/8 but my return was 1/8? Besides a lot of pressure on the line, I'm just curious how that will affect the internal oil gallery pressures.

It would not get enough oil. In a full flow system all the oil goes through the filter before it goes to the bearings.

I'm assuming he didn't drill the oil pressure gauge port to 3/8. Correct? Can you tap into the oil galley from the front of the engine instead?

Well he drilled the outlet to the filter too big, (matched the oil pump diameter) and drilled the return line the same as the gauge line which is 1/8. One of those is fine for my oil gauge but I gotta drill the return line bigger. I don't know how I missed this stuff.
