Question about replacing rubbers in '72 BB engine mount clamshells

I'm looking at replacing the dry, cracked rubbers in the '72 BB engine mounts that are in my '69 Stepside. I would like to use polyurethane replacement mounts but have some questions about getting the old ones out without ruining the clamshells. Do the areas circled in red below just need to be drilled out to separate the top and bottom halves? What about putting them back together - do I tack weld them back after drilling them out? Am I way off base here or what?

Re: Question about replacing rubbers in '72 BB engine mount clamshells

As I recall. drilling is what I did. I beleive (if memory serves me correctly), that is what the Energy Suspension (polyeurithane) directions said to do.

Just put stock ones back in. Save yourself some time.

They will last another 40 years, by that time you will probably be dead.
