Re: 'For sale Red'

Nice ride! I don't know if it would make a very good daily commuter, but it would definitely haul anything I had laying around.

Re: 'For sale Red'

Pretty cool truck.

It's got some heavy specs with the 10-Lug Fronts and what "was" a 5 & 2.

I'd be putting the 5-Speed back in it though.

No mention of the Engine for some reason, other than "Gas".

Wonder if it is a V-6 ??

I have to wonder how the auto trans works with the split rear though.

Yeah, I agree. You probably start of in Low Range, let it shift through all the gears, then just shift to High Range ??

Re: 'For sale Red'

I bought this truck on the weekend. Turned out to have a 350 with a 2bbl. He threw in the whole 5 spd setup so I could return it to stock but I actually like the TH400 and B&M shifter

I'm on the hunt now for a different ring and pinion for the T170 rear. It has 6.50:1 but I'd like to track down some higher gears. I found a reference that there is a 5.29:1 ring and pinion available, hopefully the local truck shop can track one down.

I'm only tried out the 8.85:1 low gear from a stand still once and without a load is totally not needed. I drove all weekend with the rear in high gear and had no troubles keep pace with traffic up to 50mph.

Re: 'For sale Red'

Thanks for posting those! That one is very well done. Looks like 100% fun.

You know what would be cool for one of these? Make a two axle trailer that sits as high using two beds, like 12-14'. I see these big boys and think they look like they need a job of some sort.

Re: 'For sale Red'

Special-K - This is my first medium duty truck so wasn't sure what to expect but it is actually easy to drive with the slush box and lots of fun. Haha that trailer idea is awesome. I can totally see it in my head.

Bill - Previous owner registered the GVW as 8000 kg / 17600 lb and he said it was dropped down from the previous GVW but I forgot to ask what the original GVW was. Also has a net weight listed on the registration as 2732 kg / 6010 lb

Re: 'For sale Red'

The GVW should be located on the Tag on the Door Jamb.

Re: 'For sale Red'

TriOx you can go over to Stovebolt.com as there's a few more active BC's on that site even though it's mostly '50s stuff most of us seem to have multiple trucks. I'd like to see a truck group here in the Lower Mainland start up but it's hard getting everybody together. There's lots of nice GM's out here. We're out in Langley were there's a ton of classic trucks and have a fleet of GMC's if you look at the sig below. Never enough classic GMCs though!

Re: 'For sale Red'

What a great find, someone did a great job. I would like to know what fenders they used for the rear and if the front axle is not stock what axle they used.

Great to see a GMC.

Someday Ill get back and finish mine, but son in laws C10 has to get done first.

I love the trucks that are done up like this. Looks like it could be some movie super hero's ride.

Re: 'For sale Red'

Bill - The door plate lists GVW 22000 - 24000. Is that normal for a 5500?

dubds10 - You got some nice toys there.

colgad - The front axle is stock as far as I know, drum brakes and all LOL. I'd love to do the axle mods you have done, very nice truck btw. The rear fender flares are custom fibre glass jobs that the previous owner made.

geezer#99 - Minimum 3 beers, if you ever find yourself coming to Vancouver send me a PM Air horn idea is great haha! Would make lots of new friends like that.

CG - GMCman too the rescue, able to load bigger loads and pull bigger trailers than your average person, its GMCman haha

When mild mannered Jimmy Haulin, as most know him as, sees a crime he turns into a lean mean crime fighting machine people call the Big Red Bed.

Couldn't think of a good hero name. Wanna take a shot?? (Big Red?)

Strange that it has "2" listings, but both are under CDL. For a while there I thought you may have needed a CDL to drive it, lol.

For a 5500, they are pretty heavy specs in my opinion.
