Re: Barger's 79 FJ40

Thanks Kees!
I have been very busy on several projects and trying to squeeze all of them in to get work done. And then trying to remember where I left off the last time I worked on them!!

You're not alone there! I tend to thrive on juggling projects... This 40 is coming along nicely! I have 68 waiting for its turn in the shop.

Re: Barger's 79 FJ40

Update:

Pic #1. Found a shop close to us that does sandblasting and powdercoat for a really good price. Body loaded

Pic #2. Body after blasting. Came out super nice!

Pic #3. Some other parts

Pic #4. When I got all the parts back I spent the rest of the Day getting them prepped for Epoxy Primer followed by High Build primer.

Pic #5. The parts all shot in Epoxy primer. The bare spots and with tape are areas that have rusted spots that will need attention.

Re: Barger's 79 FJ40

That's a shop full of parts!!
It is a pretty solid car by the pics to see?

One question, off topic, you don't have to answer...
Is this your daily job?
Or just "just" a hobby?

Keep the pics coming Mark!

I like that trolley system you have the body on. That's really well thought out. How much weight can it hold?

Kees, Yes the body was pretty solid (kinda rare for these) I will be showing all the metal work that needs to be done.
As for your question, Yes this is what I do everyday!

Re: Barger's 79 FJ40

RickySnickers, The trolley system really helps for lifting things by yourself (alot safer and dont have to buy beer to bribe your friends lol) Dad put this up when he built the shop 20yrs ago or so. Dont really know how much it can really lift but the hoist's are 2ton each, so a fair amount.

Re: Barger's 79 FJ40

Update:

Pic #1. This is the rear sill that was the worst section of the body (the outer skin was removed in this shot)

Pic #2.The section on the left needs to be cut out, so it will be hand made.

Pic #3. This was after all the rot was cut out. (If you look close the right side corner was cut out and needed to be replaced)

Pic #4. Close up of the corner, the reason I cut all this out was the brace that goes in behind it gets welded to this and had rotted through and took out the lower lip as well.

Pic #5. The new patch I made.

Re: Barger's 79 FJ40

Pic #1. The bottom lip was all hand made as well to look factory.

Pic #2. This section had a lot of rot so it needed to be cut out, the reason for the rounded ends is to reduce the chance of cracking in the corners.

Re: Barger's 79 FJ40

Good idea with the rounded corners. And I've noticed square corners burn out easier.

Nice finishing on the bottom lip.
