Mounting a snowplow

Wanting to move a snow plow from a 82 Chev 3/4 to a 88 3500 GMC. Does anyone know if the frame rails are the same distance apart at the bumpers on both. If they are the same thinking of making an offer on the 88 GMC. Thanks Cam

Re: Mounting a snowplow

Is the '88 3500 GMC the "new" or "old" body style? I believe they made both styles in '88 depending on the configuration (single cab, crew cab, chassis cab, etc.). If it's the old style (that looks similar to your '82) then the plow should be a bolt-on swap. However, if it's the new style, the frame rails are farther apart and considerably different shape in the front so that would require a different mount for the plow.

Re: Mounting a snowplow

I have an 88 chev 1ton crew with the old body style, but the 88 GMC Regular cab I was looking at is the new body style. Fabrication is not a strength in skill or equipment that I have unfortunately. But boy do I need a running snow plow:waah

You might to check with the manufacturer of your snow plow to see if they ever offered a mounting kit to install your model of plow onto the 88+ new body style GM trucks. If they did, you might be able to find a good used one.

That sounds like the thing to do, a lot less hassles. It's 20+ years old, might get lucky. Thanks
