Front cab mount position

While I was going on the "rivet drill out" frenzy, I did not mark the position of my front cab mounts before I removed them.

Would anyone be able to grab me a few measurements on their bare stock chassis for the cab mounts? Thank you.

Re: Front cab mount position

The holes should line right back up I'd think.
I can never figure out why some of you guys feel the need to drill good rivets out and remove every piece from the frame but to each his own. The holes should be there to drill to fit bolts in to bolt it back together.

I had to remove one of mine to do a frame repair. It lined back up with no problems.

Re: Front cab mount position

My apologies, I should have mentioned I filled the holes also.

@mr48chev: There is a number of reasons guys are removing them - from Rudy that lives underneath them to allowing them to remove running board brackets to save shins when working on them.

Well if your taking stuff off and filling holes, what's hole or bracket did you not touch that we can help you use as a reference point?

I will grab some measurements when I get home this afternoon. I have a 1955 series 1 3100, so hopefully they are the same.

You filled the holes, I just flat do not know what to say to that. You guys never cease to amaze me with some of the things you do. Have you ever tried to drill through welds before?

Re: Front cab mount position

So I measured 50.25” from the front of the frame to the front of the cab mount. That should get you close, then you can weld them on or whatever you are gonna do. Not sure what the big deal is with taking them off, its your truck man, do what you want, the forum is here to help.

Please feel free to drop off the conversation. People like you amaze me, trolls are the best though For a man who talks a lot - your work seems to be minimal.

Thanks Rabid, I will take a look at them when I get back from traveling.

Sounds good, I am taking the body off tonight, so I will get some better measurements and pictures.

here you go. the irony here is that this is mr48s picture he posted in another thread. instead of posting it he went for the laughing walrus. I just do not know what to say to that.

Re: Front cab mount position

Joe it was the simple fact that he had welded up the holes that I found rather mind boggling.

I've cut riveted brackets of in the past and bolted them on and they are never as good bolted on as they were when they were originally riveted on. That includes running board brackets on my 48 that I replaced because someone had torched the original ones off the frame before i got it. Not a lot of choice in that nor as Matt 50 said on his when he had to repair the frame.

I may have laughed and marveled at his misery a bit but that was self inflicted. As you well know I'll be the first to nail someone who throws out bad info to anyone on here and especially when the guys asking the question might take it serious.

As for my progress right now you don't see a lot of progress out of me and if you did you would see that I have to work out in the gravel in front of the garage where right now it is 90 something degrees with no shade. It is hard to get real enthused with no real place to work on the project. That and it isn't the only ongoing project I have nor the most pressing.

I'll remember that on the next road trip to Cali Iowaboyinca. Hope you aren't close to the fires.

Re: Front cab mount position

Guys, we are in a garage with a beer in our hands talking about these old trucks, there are jokes, there are stories of running drills into our faces, there are comments that help us get a part bolted on right, it's a little of everything.

It's all good, ENJOY the playful joking along with everything else that makes us humans.

ban·ter
ˈban(t)ər/Submit
noun
1.
the playful and friendly exchange of teasing remarks.
"there was much singing and good-natured banter"
synonyms: repartee, witty conversation, raillery, wordplay, cut and thrust, kidding, ribbing, badinage, joshing
"a brief exchange of banter"
verb
1.
talk or exchange remarks in a good-humored teasing way.
"the men bantered with the waitresses"
synonyms: joke, jest, quip; More

None of us knows it all, NONE of us. We know what we know, we know what we don't know, but we don't know what we don't know!

Have your eyes and ears open and you will learn a lot, I know I have! There are a LOT of knowledgeable guys on this forum I recommend this forum all the time on other forums when these trucks come up, there are is a LOT of knowledge here! Along with it, you have to take it all in and use what you can, not just what you "want" or you may be missing some useful info!

Re: Front cab mount position

Thanks mr48, martinsr and I aren't getting affected by the fires other than the smoke...

Focused..what about you? Are you being affected by any of the fires?

Back to the question at hand...Focused, did you get your question answered? Since I helped add to the banter, just wanted to make sure and I went and measured some points on my frame. I'd trust joedoh's schematics more

on a side note, I just realized that the cab mounts, the pieces themselves aren't symmetrical, i.e. mirror pieces. The driver side only has 1 rivet on the top of the frame where as the passenger has 2.

Never noticed that before, until this thread.

Re: Front cab mount position

youre welcome focused, but it bears repeating, that is actually mr48s picture from his photobucket, I remembered this came up once before, frame measurements, and someone posted a picture. so give him the credit, I just found it and reposted it.

I bet if he is in a good mood now with both the promise of beer, and brians kum-bye-ya post, that he might be persuaded to take a better picture of the assembly manual he got the picture from.

for what its worth, digging through responses for the answer is sometimes frustrating, but no one is getting paid here, so you take what you can get. If I have an answer you can bet I post it, if I dont have an answer you can bet I dont even type one letter, and thats just the way I feel about it.

Re: Front cab mount position

Those pages aren't all that clear in the Assembly manual. I think I took the shot that Joe first showed at 16 meg back three or four years ago with my camera as the scanner I had wouldn't give a clear image.

Here are most of the images I saved of it. http://s173.photobucket.com/user/mr4...?sort=4&page=1
