Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...

Sounds good. Post it up when you start.
I haven't touched my bike (concentrating on the truck) since I pulled a stud out of the cases (again) with that beast of a motor. Now I'm thinking the drag bike thing has fallen to the wayside, maybe I need to slap that rock crusher into a rigid frame. So it went from a couple of Time-Serts to a more involved project...in my mind anyway. It doesn't stop.
I keep thinking "The Truck. The Truck. One thing at a time..."

Stay on the truck. BTW. If you decide to sell your wheels, let me know. I might have to do some measurements to see if I can fit them...

Jim im in the same spot! Im building a little sporty bobber and im just about done with it and then all my focus turned to this truck. Now my wife keeps bugging me to get my bike done so she can have somebody to ride with. I keep reminding her to she is pregnant so that buys me a little more time. But I gotta just keep dumping my money into this truck until it get done!

The rears will never fit unless you narrowed your rear. I couldn't even lower the truck past the top/side of the tire.
I need to stop spending money I don't really have!

Alex, if you came that far maybe you could just get the last details done on the bike and then relax and concentrate on the truck. I think I have to get rid of those Nik-A-Sil lined cylinders and go back to iron lined ones. Maybe some 88" ones, although with two time-serts already in the cases there really isn't room to bore them bigger. "Hello...S&S? I need to order some cases."
(or STD, although I think they're gone now)

Oh ok...I want the wheels to be kind of flush like they are now when aired out. I was considering narrowing the rear or cutting the bed wall...do I need to do both with those wheels?

Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...

I had to do both, so I will guess if you want it laid out, then yes. As far as them being more flush, with a stepside there is no way you will lay out unless the wheels and/or tires are either very narrow, or pulled in thanks to a narrowed rear--which of course means cutting the bedsides.
The step fenders aren't wide enough inside, especially with the top curving down so much at the outside.
"Stella Mae" is running a 265 on the rear, but that's a mild kit and aired out it's higher than my ride height will be, and he's only covering the top of the tire not much, if any, of the rim.
I tried to take the rim with tires mounted and just hold it in place up in the step fender and with a 295 it only went up in the fender about 1/2"!!

It's only metal. Don't be afraid to cut it so it does what YOU want.

Haha! No fear...I already trimmed the outer fenders to allow me to ride low in the rear with the new bed

Same as stock, but with a turn down just before the rear diff.

No, I am. The tire is pressed against the fender up there, but I got all the way down.

What are the measurement of the wheels currently on the truck or did I miss them in the thread?

You missed the best part! Post number one. 18x8 4.5"bs, and 20x10 5.25"bs. with a 1.25" spacer. (for future 4" bs)
Tires are 245/45/18 and 295/40/20.

Hah, I wish it was that mesmerizing!
Yeah, I'm keeping them for now. Even if I sold 'em, that would only make a small dent in the price of some 20/22's!! I don't have that money right now. I spent it all on things that say "PB" on them! (Worth it though)

Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...

I know you do! That's a nice ride you're putting together. Were you thinking of losing the steelies on Roxy and putting some bigger wheels on?
Who makes that ribbed cover on the diff, btw? I may have missed it. Looks nice.

Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...

I'm really fighting the urge to put big wheels on it. I have access to a set of 20s but they are too blingy for me.

The diff cover is stock on mine.

Your truck looks great, btw!

Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...

That's why I wouldn't mind sticking with the TTII's. They seem simple, classic--although played to some--I think they look better than other "classics" like Cragar SS. The 18's do look really tiny with the giant wheel openings on these trucks, though!
I love the way steelies look with some caps, COPO, or some other. A contrasting muted creme steelie could also look amazing on your truck. (Not diminishing the look of the color matched ones you have at all.)

I haven't seen a slightly indented/finned cover like that. Interesting. Would one fit on my stock 12 bolt rear?

Re: PB bagged 69 stepside-because Leon asked...

I like the look of a classic 5 spoke design. TT's fit these trucks perfectly.

I'm not sure what cover your referring too. I'm just using the stock 12 bolt cover.

Page 4, #81. Am I retarded and that's just tape covering the opening and not a cover??!! Damn, I looked fast and went, "Hey, that's different"

Well. If that's the case yes it will fit your 12 bolt and I can custom make you one. Lol!
