Hello Ian. Glad to see that you are bonding with your old/new truck. It'll be a fun build. I really like that massive rear bumper on there. And Welcome.

Re: uk newby saying hi to everyone

hi everyone... plans are to fit air bags and lower it, fuel is really expensive over here and im up in the north of the country, which means lots of 600 mile round trips to rod runs. plus i want to use it as much as i can when finished so im planing on fitting a 2.5 diesel engine with a 5 speed manual box for economy, paint wise, im undecided, i love the rusty/untouched look, just dont like the look of mine much as it is... but it wont be a polished finish as its not in my budget!

Welcome from Boston, MA Ian, this is the right site for you to get advice and help on the 49. I see it may have been originaly Windsor Blue.

Re: uk newby saying hi to everyone

Sounds like a good engine and trans combo but you'll need a Chevy Nova rear axle for the open driveshaft. Perhaps something like a 2.50 to 1 ratio to make that diesel happy.

The Nova has a 5 lug bolt pattern with 4.75" bolt circle.

Of course you want to upgrade the front to disc brakes.

After you get the chassis sorted have it sandblasted and powder coated to keep the tin worms at bay Gotta keep the MOT boys happy you know.

Re: uk newby saying hi to everyone

My neighbor just finished a 52 Chevy pick up and he used a Nissan I R S from a I think he said a 300 ZX, it was the right width (does that sound right) it was a Ford 5 bolt pattern which matched his front IFS Ford.
That 3:90 gear sounds a bit low for a diesel even with OD

A little spit and polish on the sheet metal and it will look great.

Keep us updated with pics.

Welcome from So Arizona
