60-62 I6 to V8 swap questions
Hey guys, later this summer I'll be swapping in a 283 and keep the same manual trans and have questions on motor/trans mount setups.
Can I use a bellhousing from a '68 pickup with threaded holes for mounts and use the stock mounts, with the nokav slave cyl setup? Or would be better to track down a 60-62 V8 bellhousing? If anyone has one they'd be willing to part with?? As far as motor mounts, can I use the side engine mount setup from a '79 pickup or would it be better to use a front mount setup like this. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/1955-1...ount,6725.html I've got all the parts to do either of these setups. I've done some searching and most I find is people switching to automatics or its 63 and up. Thanks guys! |

Re: 60-62 I6 to V8 swap questions
For a bellhousing you will want one from a '63-'67 as those have the smaller center hole for the trans front bearing retainer. The '68 and up have the larger 5-1/8" center hole.
As for the motor mounts and brackets. If you want to use the better '73 and up style motor mounts, you will want the brackets from a C20 or C30. Those are shorter and fit the early frames better. However since you have a '60-'62 you will still need to add a spacer on top of the frame.

Re: 60-62 I6 to V8 swap questions
if you can find a 60-62 b/housing that would make it simpler for you as you more t5han likely already have the hydr line going there and have a slave cyl that will fit

Re: 60-62 I6 to V8 swap questions
I have done the swap your considering . I used a 65 bellhousing. and 65 front engine mounts. I converted mine over the mechanical clutch linkage fron a 65 also. drilled a hole in the firewall for the linkage to pass through. also had to attach the bracket to the frame for the Z bar. Hydraulic clutch release to me is a pain.

Re: 60-62 I6 to V8 swap questions
Thanks captain, I'll have to see if I can find some brackets from a C20 or 30.
What are you guys using for a spacer? I'm guessing it's gonna be a homemade job. |
