Dana 44?

I have a Dana 44 front and I need to replkace the seals on each side of the carrier. I tried to pop the carrier out but it did not really want to come out. Is there any special way of doing it or do I need to use a little more force?
Also I should be able to do this and reinstall without setting gears up again correct?
Thanks
Ron

Re: Dana 44?

Yes, it will come out with just a little force. Sometimes a little more than you'd think. I tapped it out with a dead blow hammer. I also very gently had to pry it out with a pry bar, being VERY careful not to scratch anything. I pried it from one of the carrier bolts. You can also try to wrap some rope or maybe a tow strap and pull it out.

Be sure you have a soft surface on the floor, maybe a cardboard box so it won't slam on the ground. It's not that heavy, so you can also try to catch it with your hand. And yes, it will come out as an assembly, no need to set up gears again. Just be sure to put the caps back on on the right side and in the exact same orientation. Make sure you clean the axle tubes, too.

By the way, it will be even harder to put it back in, so get ready to use that soft, dead blow hammer. I have a write-up in my build thread.
