Any home theater pros here?

My dilemma is I have a new TV and a old home theater system.

I am trying to get whatever audio is playing from the TV to the home theater.

Here is the back of the tv.

Here is the back of the stereo.

I tried the direct RCA connection from the TV to LD on the stereo, the only one available and no audio was heard. I was hoping I could use the optical out of the TV to something on the stereo.

Let me know what you think?

Thanks,
Steve

Re: Any home theater pros here?

HDMIs all to the TV, optical out of TV to a Digital-to-Analog converter, and then RCAs out of that to an input on the receiver.

You will need to buy a Digital-Analog Converter. There are several out there but we always use the Gefen ones.

I've been doing this for a living for 19 years

So something like this one? http://www.gefen.com/product/digital...-DIGAUD-2-AAUD

I did have this one for a different configuration but it didnt work. I think the optical was on the Output and not input.

Thanks Ryan!

Re: Any home theater pros here?

That would be the one. Make sure you set the sound for External Speaker instead of TV speaker.

If you have the HDMI Audio Extractor you should be able to come out of that with red/white RCAs and go directly to your receiver. We use these on newer cable boxes and tying into house audio systems. Just not that very brand.

Re: Any home theater pros here?

Looking at the Amazon link you will probably need to select "2-ch". Looks like your receiver isn't Dolby Digtial so there is no way to accept a 5.1 input (optical/SPDIF/Dig. Coax).

Re: Any home theater pros here?

So... I solved this by buying a new Samsung 42" TV. I used the audio output from the TV and connected it to the LD connection on the stereo. So anything that is coming out of the TV will be sent to the stereo. problem solved!
