Holley Carb Help

Okay, long time since my last post but I'm finally digging back into my truck and I encountered an issue. Went to rebuild the Carter that was on it and it's trashed. Rebuild kit went fine until disassembly and I realized many of the internals were corroded and couldn't be removed. So I went to the garage bench and dug around for a new carb. I found myself an old Holley 1850. Now, I have a few questions.

1.) I'm seeing two types listed for the 1850. 0-1850S and 0-1850SA. Mine's an older one and I'm not sure which one of these it is.

2.) If I just buy the 1850 rebuild kit will it work with either one of these models?

3.) It is not an electric choke and the Carter that was on the engine had an electric choke. Can I get a conversion kit for the Holley to make it elec. choke?

4.) I can't for the life of me seem to get a straight answer from the internet of what bore type it is. I know I'll need an adapter but looking through them I'm so confused and don't want to order the wrong one. (If it helps my current carb is a Carter AFB 625CFM)

Sorry for the totally clueless post. I know a lot about small engines and their carbs, but I'm really new to vehicle carbs.

Carb kit should be the same.
What’s the list number on yours? Look on the front of the air horn.
The 1850 is a squarebore carb just like your carter is.
It should bolt right onto your intake.
And yes you can buy an electric choke conversion for it.

On the air horn it should read 1850-1, or 2 or 3 or4, etc. That will help narrow it down but as geezer#99 said, the same kit will work on most all 1850's.

And that choke kit should work.

It's just a bolt on electric choke kit. All I use are Holley carbs and I hate the electric chokes. I would just use a hand choke if you truly need one.

Me... I have removed every choke out of every carb I've ever used.

I would use a hand choke but the motor already had an electric choke on the Carter. Figured I might as well get an electric one and if I'm not happy with it I can always grab another carb out of our collection.

Got the parts ordered, will probably do a thread on the rebuild and install of the electric choke.

Seems I've hit a roadblock. JEGs has taken the money from my account but my order has bee declined.

For your electric choke, there were actually two connections on my 1970 fuse box (not sure about other years) for keyed power. I use one for my Holley electric choke and one for my HEI. Those are not fused, so recommend an inline fuse in your wire.

Thanks for the heads up, I already had an electric choke wired in when I acquired this truck from my father and I'm not sure if any of them had modifications done to it. I might do it, but I also might wait because I have a whole new wiring harness for the truck.

Quick question just to confirm. The 1850-2 is a vacuum secondary, correct?

Yup... the 1850 is a 4160 series vacuum secondary carb.

Quick change kit for what? Secondary springs or jets?

Quick change kit for the vacuum secondary springs? Unless you're drag racing, or doing something where you're changing springs and jets a lot... you won't need any of the "quick change" stuff. Save your money.

Springs. I'm trying to build up the carb so eventually when I go to a higher performance motor I can keep using my current carb.

You can add a "quick change" vacuum secondary housing pretty easy. So it can be done later on. I've never seen the need for one. If I needed to change vacuum secondary springs that often, I'd just switch over to a double pumper carb.
