Orig. Truck Rally Center Caps that are different from most/Bolt on from inside wheel

I have a very original 78. The rally wheels have caps that I haven't seen before. I've looked for some like them online but can't find info or even a picture of them anywhere. They are all chrome and smooth, and don't have the fluted area for the lugs, they are like smoothie caps, best I can describe them. If I didn't know any better I'd think they were mopar caps with chevy emblems on them.... They must be rare. Were they one year only?

Our '75 had those when new, as well.

The base on ours was painted black but that might be something Dad had done (he painted black inside the headlight bezels too).

I have a set of those somewhere. I believe they are early caps... but could be wrong. I've parted out over 500 squares and only ran across one set of 4, in a 5 lug. I will say that 73-5 squares have always been thin around here... so that why I figure I haven't ran across another set.

Just to say I asked... what is the wheel code stamped on the wheels? I could see if that is an early set of wheels on a later truck.

I have a 77 C10 that came with these caps too, I took another set off of a 76 truck a couple years ago also. They bolt onto the wheel from backside. Both sets of mine are rough though.

Re: Orig. Truck Rally Center Caps that are different from most/Bolt on from inside wh

Are these caps rare / worth more than the fluted caps? I just bought a set of Rally's and was thinking that someone must have replaced the stock caps with aftermarket, but this thread leads me to say otherwise. The caps look just like the Chevy caps in post #2 above, but mine are GMC. Solid condition. If these caps are more valuable, it might mean me selling the caps to buy the fluted version and spending the extra on something else.

I don't think they are what would be considered desirable. They are cool but not in demand. Most people are just happy to have caps for their wheels and aren't real particular about the style they are. I see NOS ones as cheap as $35 each

Thanks, makes me feel better about swapping out the GMC inserts on mine to put in Bowties. I am at least using NOS Bowtie inserts (as long as I can find a second pair to the ones I purchased), so there's that!.
