Grease or oil

Changing the knuckle seals on my Dana 44 closed knuckle. Found grease in it not the 140W recommended.
Stay with the grease?
flush out the grease and fill with 140W?
Add 140W behind the grease?
Add flowable grease behind the grease?

Re: Grease or oil

Being where you live i would use 140w if your knuckles are in descent shape. with new seals, just might be ok. You want to keep the knuckle bearings lubed.

Re: Grease or oil

is the felt meant to soak up some oil and keep the ball lubed as well? The knuckle balls aren't in the greatest shape. I used a wood stripping pad to clean off the caked on stuff and polish the balls as best I could but there is some gouging/pitting.

Re: Grease or oil

yes the seals do lube the knuckles some. I spray mine now and then wit some spray white grease. Some body on here took JB-weld and coated his knuckles (thin coat) and sanded down smooth. I think i put some grease on my seals when i did mine. You should be fine. At least wait to see any leaks.
