Dana 20 Transfer Case
I was going to change the front pinion seal out in my transfer case the other day and I ran into a problem. I got a 3-speed trans w/ and transfer case out of a 1969 K5. I thought the transfer case was a Dana 20, and that is what I have been told. But when I got to the parts store to get the seal, they only showed one for a Spicer 18 and the Rockwell. I saw the Federal Mogul book myself, so the guy just didn't miss it. Can somebody please help me out. Thanks in advance!!!

Federal Mogul book is wrong, plain and simple. Spicer 18 is similar to the Dana (Spicer) model 20, except the 18 has an offset rear output. You may have to get the number off the seal that is in there. Good chance that it is the same seal as a model 18.

Ryan, I have a Rockwell in my truck. The number one thing I like most about it is that the output for the rear driveshaft is at the very bottom of the transfer case. That helps from having too much driveshaft angle with my 8" lift. Other than that, I don't know much about them. Mine works great!

I've got one in my 69 and parts are kinda hard to find and expensive. I'm pulling mine shortly when I put in a 4 speed and 454 so I have purchased seals for it. Couldn't find a gasket kit so I will just make them and/or use silicone. They are plenty strong but just not very desirable because of lack of parts and knowledge about them.

Oh ok. Ive never seen one before that i know of.
Thats interesting about the output being lower. That should be nice. At least they seem to be a strong unit and dont need to many part to be replaced. Seems like and old transfer case is plenty strong. Do some have a pto? Is it the same rockwell company that makes the 2.5 ton axles?

Yes, there is provision for a PTO, and, yes, it is the same Rockwell. In fact, they were used on some Mil-Vehs.
Someone posted a link to a T-case specialty place a couple weeks ago that stocks Rockwell parts and seals. I don't have it saved here at work.
