Vehicle Speed Sensor

I removed my cluster & noticed what I think is a Vehicle Speed Sensor attached to the speedo. (See pic)

What does this do?

Would it by chance have anything to do with the cruise control?

If so, I know longer have the cruise hooked up.

Can I remove this part?

Re: Vehicle Speed Sensor

Depends on year of vehicle I'd guess. It's an optic eye mounted to back of speedo to determine your speed for the cruise control and I believe the computer (if equiped).

Re: Vehicle Speed Sensor

I don't have any plans on finding all the parts needed for the cruise control.

So I guess this can be removed..

Re: Vehicle Speed Sensor

I don't know the year of your truck, but my 83 with factory cruise control has a VSS in the speedometer cable going to the transmission. It is a two piece cable (short cable and long cable) with the VSS in between the two cables. I suppose there might be something like you picture in my truck, but I don't recall seeing it the last time I had the dash apart.
