And the race is on!

Ok, not really a race, just a little fun today. There is a two lane north south hwy that opens to a four lane and then a little further up there is a stop light and an additional left and right turn lane. Just past this though it narrows back to a two lane north and south. Opens in congested areas, closes back up on long stretches.

So light turns red and I'm first in line. Guy behind me moves over to the right lane, I guess he figured my old GMC is a slug, especially because its an uphill grade so he would just pass the old guy in the truck and merge in front of him when the right lane merges back in to the left.

He's in a med size ram pick up. Light turns green, off he goes. Now personally Im seldom in a hurry and if someone wants to go faster than me thats cool. But I figure Ill keep it close haha. The 454 in my GMC has a bunch of miles on it, but it is no slouch. I stay just off his bumper (staying in my lane). He looks in his side mirror and jumps on it. I stay just off his bumper. He really tries to get in to it now, the merge is coming up. I easily stay just off his bumper. But when its close I let off in plenty of time to easily let him merge over.

Yep, just an old dude having a little fun =)

Edit: Added picture of the slug haha!

Re: And the race is on!

I enjoy proving what an assumptive ass some people can be when driving my old but not so slow trucks as well.

Nice looking "slug" there CG! Really dig those slots on it!

I get what ya mean though and can say that Ive been guilty deriving satisfaction of blowing off various unsuspecting high priced German and Bavarian vehicles with my '63.... even if there were a few parts falling off in the process

Re: And the race is on!

I was a siding contractor for years. My trucks would be all loaded up with scaffold and ladders up top with tools and materials hanging out the bed. At a light without fail, the cars coming up would all jump to the other lane so as to not get stuck behind the truck. Light would change and the Big Bad Green Siding Machine was solid gone!

One day driving down a dual hiway in the '80s in my '78 dually with healthy 454 a Z28 was being all squirrelly about getting around me. I got ahead of all the cars and over in the right lane and could hear him hit it through my sliding window. I never let him off my bumper. I tromped that thing down and let 'er fly. Ended up a couple exits farther than intended, pulled off to head back, and the guy flagged me over. I opened the hood and we shot the bull a while.

Then there was the time I had an Astro Van getting on my nerves trying to get around me and I opened it up (in my '70 C/30) to get into the open and let him over to find it was a very angry State Trooper. He asked what my hurry was and I said, "I'm not in a hurry. I didn't know you were a cop. I just thought you were an a-hole". It actually turned out not so bad.
