He got a 2007 f150 shortbox for graduation last year, brand new and that things a turd, 4.6 no power at all. Two weeks after he sold his 92 it apparently broke down, dont know why, all he said was "That coulda had me stuck without a vehicle (he had two for the longest time before his dad sold the 92 for him while he was at bootcamp)

He never understood how cheaply we could of made his 92 fast, and now he wants to put a supercharger on his 07, wont be hard but just gonna cost so much $$$. Good luck on your build, sounds fun, what 5 speed are you gonna turst behind that rocketship engine? gonna step un up to a tko or?

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Guys,
I am an orignal owner of a highly optioned Sierra GT that I bought new in 1994. The truck is basically a chevy ss454 without the BB. The truck is slightly modified with "bolt ons" and can easly be put back to it stock form. Here for your review are the photos of the documentation that I have on the truck from the dealer/GMC. This should answer some questions on this thread. Also, I have my Sierra GT posted in the trucks for sale thread also.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Hey Boog...........It has a Bell Tech Kit from 1997 (when I did the work). I installed 2" dropped spindles and 2" lowered coils up front and a 6" rear end flip on the rear with Nitro Drop shocks on all four corners. I did not notch the frame so my clearance is VERY limited. I did not want to cut frame in case I decided to put the suspension back to stock.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Hey SJCharney, in your for sale ad you say 285hp. Can you provide a little more detail as to the specifics of the engine?
I have seen the term "HO" thrown about before but have never gotten any specifics as to what makes it "HO" or any sort of performance numbers.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

kevinr1970, I was told by the dealer that teh ruck had a HO 350. And, there is also a story here as well about this truck............

My Sierra GT was located for me by a Sales Manager at Union County Buick via their sister dealership Coast Pontiac GMC in Sea Girt, NJ. At the time, I was looking for a 2wd drive Chevy/GMC full size trcuk to customize. The Coast GMC dealership has changed onwers and name to T&T Coast. At Coast, I was told by the Sales Manager that the truck was special ordered by the previous Sales Manager who quit before the truck arrived at the dealership. Teh dealership was eager to sell the truck seeing that it was sitting in their showroom for a number of weeks. Not being familiar with the truck opition codes, I took the sales manager's word on 350 HO comment seeing that he was referred to me from a reliable source. I figured that it was probably the 350's seen in the police cars or camaros. (BTW, I have a stock 1993 police intercepter 350 in my 51 Ford Panel Truck with TBI pulled from a wreck police car in NJ.) Also, I never thought anything differnet due to the fact that the truck has great pickup and I am able to "chirp" the rear wheels into second gear (The 350 in the truck is stock...no chip, no nothing, except for the air cleaner). Basically, I had no reason to doubt it.

After reading the different threads on the site and learn about some of these codes, I am starting to beleive that the information I was told maybe false. On the actual dealer invoice for the trcuk it gives the L05 opition code. So, now I wonder..............

Please realize seeing that I am selling this truck, by no means do I want to provide to the possible buyer any incorrect information on the truck. Being a fan and hobbist of the muscle car realm, I am very adapt to the number and codes game that people can play. I do not want to be one of them.

Have to say thou...something is strange here with my truck. I am going to see if I can get the casting numbers on the back of the block.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Let me clear some things up, my uncle worked at GM and i've been researching this.

The GMC "sierra ST" was what they had before they had the "sierra GT", the last year of the ST was 91, 92+ were all GT and had door stickers, painted sport mirrors, color matched grille, bumper, molding with color accents, ...

The "Sport" "Sierra GT" "Sierra ST" trucks were all available with 4.3,5.0 or 5.7 engines and NONE OF them were "HO", auto or 5 speed, most of the time they had decent gearing.

It was simply a exterior package, most did not roll out of the factory with these packages UNLESS you got the ZQ9 rpo, APPEARANCE PACKAGE, EXTERIOR TRIM, BLACK OUT. Then you know it was factory black out. Dealers would have to order or a customer would have to order then they would take a truck and print and apply the appropiate RPO code sheet in the glovebox... hard to explain. it was an attention grabber

BYP got you the "sport appearence" and ZQ9 was exterior trim blackout, the 454ss has both, so do the BLACK sport trucks with black grille/bumper.

You guys are also forgetting the "sport suspension" chassis package which is RPO ZQ8...my NON byp sport truck has the ZQ8 because my truck has the factory billstein shocks and sway bars with 3.42 posi rear. I'm willing to bet the sport suspension got you 3.42's in 5 speeds and 3.73's behind autos because thats usually what i see in sport trucks.

My truck is a NON SPORT NON GT GMC, and has buckets, sport suspension, 350 and 5 speed with factory 3.42 posi G80 rear. Shortbed 2wd. the BYP sport appearence package is not listed on my 91 but its a GMC not a chevy so it would'nt be, so I think my truck was originally a regular well optioned truck with a chrome bumper/grille but the PO converted my front end to all black because it has a smoothie bumper and the truck has no molding/trim.

Theres a member on FSC that has a 92 chevy sport 4x4 with Z71 suspension and it has a 305/700r4/3.73 g80.. here it is below...

Here is a 89 Sport 4x4 with 350/700r4/3.73.... NOTICE instead of saying sport it says 4X4 with the rest of the sport package, the owner is on FSC.com and did the wheels and the 94+ grille mod.

The truck below is a 90 Sport, 350/5 speed/3.42 .... see the fog lights, the mirrors, the molding accented, the grille,

Heres a 90 ''Sierra ST'' Stepside, 350/700r4..below

Heres a 96 Green Sierra GT.. looks like someone added the chrome aftermarket grille shell,, never factory. .. below

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

BASICLY the sports package consisted of a color matched bumpers/grille to whatever the primary paint was.

If you got the BYP sport package and then put the ZQ9 on top of that THEN you got the black grille/bumper/trim w/red...otherwise with just BYP you got color match front end/mirrors/suspension/decals/ ect ect...,

It was all a gimmick to get your attention/money... and bTW that GT posted above that is for sale is SEXY

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

I have a 1990 Silverado with the ZQ8 "SPORT CHASSIS PACKAGE" that I will be restoring in the near future. I think the truck is somewhat rare and I have not seen any others like it in a very long time. The truck has PA6 "15X7 STYLED (PAINTED) WHEELS" which are grey in color with black center caps. The wheels look like the 454SS wheels except they are painted. The tires were the BFG Comp T/A like the SS. The truck has the Silverado package with the chrome stripe on the side moulding, chrome bumpers, and the chrome accent to the front grille. The tailgate had the gold and black "CHEVROLET" decal. The truck has blue interior with A50 "LOW BACK BUCKET SEATS." There are no fog lights. Almost forgot, the outside mirrors are chrome.

I have seen many of the "Sport" trucks with the monochromatic paint scheme, but none like I have. Anybody got pics of a truck like mine? I would sure like to see them.

I have owned the truck since new and it has been sitting under a tree in south Texas for the past 7 or 8 years. I think it has a little over 100K on the odometer. I hope to get the truck back home to start work on it in the next couple of months.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

I am going to have some pictures up in a about 4 or 5 days. Unfortunately, I don't think I even have a picture of the truck when it was new. I seem to have pics of every other vehicle I had, but none of this one. Oh well, I will be down south in a few days and I will see just what I will be starting with.

Great stuff PMoore. I never knew the ZQ8 was a stand-alone option; I thought it was only available with the sport package. So is your 3.42 rear an open diff? I was looking for G80 on that list. And I definitely am with Palf -- we love pictures around here. Welcome to the board.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

I will get some pics up by the end of the week. I need to assess how much work I have ahead of me. I want to return the truck to how it was when it rolled off the assembly line.

One thing I know I am going to need are the bucket seats and console. When I bought the truck almost 20 years ago my Dad said that bucket seats were impractical and he had the dealer take them out before delivery! Ouch!

It appears the 1992 - 1994 Suburbans were equipped with the same style seats, so I have some leads. The console on the '94 models has a recess on top and would have to be changed to be correct. Also, the Suburban consoles have a sliding tray in the rear which would not be right either, but close enough.

Here is a pic of a 1994 Suburban currently on CL in Houston. (notice console lid)

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

I guess I was wrong. The Suburban seats are not the same. Here are the GM catalog pages relevant to the bucket seating. The seat profile is obviously different from the Suburban model and is verified a few posts back showing the black GMC with the grey interior. I am guessing the correct "low back" buckets would be really hard to find. I might have to settle for the Suburban seats.

Center Console (reference to "53" for tray and housing is for extended cabs):

Since you threw up those pages from the parts book, do you happen to have one that also shows the inflatable lumbar support? I need to get at mine and would like a sneak peek at the mechanics of it.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

I have the 52C 88-91 CK Light Duty Truck GM Parts Catalog. I don't see a reference to power seats at all. Also, the truck does have a limited slip differential. The G80 is listed as "AXLE POSITRACTION - LIMITED SLIP" in the RPO code list.

I am curious to see if I have the "sport" steering gear box.

i had a 1990 sport a few years back and it was a factoy order with a 4.3 and 5 speed. it had a black grill with a red and black bowtie, chrome wheels with black and red centers instead os gold. it also had black moldings with red pinstripes in it. they were sold just like the 454's and where whit, red, or black. hope this helps i can post a few pictures if you want. i know the 454's had bucket seats and different mirrors but the non 454's didn't.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

I have seen many "Sport" editions with the monochromatic paint scheme, but I am looking for any reference to a Silverado with sport suspension and bucket seats. I put some pages from the GM catalog on the posts above, but it looks like the host server is down temporarily.

Wow...look what I drove 100 miles to pick up today. The correct seats for my restoration.

Man, they are almost perfect. They were little dirty when I picked them up, but I spent about an hour cleaning them. I removed, cleaned, and lubricated the tracks and they function perfectly. I used some upholstery cleaner and they are really nice now.

Doesn't say GT or ST in the ad but you can see it says something in the pictures.
