The rubber is ok, could stand new. It's located on the passanger side.
That has got to be about the nicest original door on earth

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX

Tell me more about this fiberglass door. Who made them ?

I started working on mine today,, it's no wonder they rust out,,, theres no way for the moisture to get out. Mine had the lower trim and the water could get in around the mounting holes of the trim and then just sit and rust. It will have a drain hole or two when it's done. I ended up cutting the bottom outer skin straight across the bottom of the lock indent. will attempt to make a new lower skin. all 6 screws twisted off, they had been soaked with liquid wrench for a couple of weeks but still twisted off. after I cut the outer lower skin off I drilled all the broken screws out, welded the holes shut and redrilled and tapped new holes. You could tell that the door had sat full of water,, pretty rusty inside. I sand blasted as much as I could reach and then treated it with rust stop. I poured some rust stop in and tipped it back and forth to get everything covered. Hope it helps.
Tomorrow I will attempt a "patch panel " I'll cut it out of an extra hood I have.

Have a great day !!! Tom

Well, they were made for a short while by Dennis' Truck Parts in Pinellas Park,FL about 20 years ago. It was a complete kit: fiberglass door, hinged, cable stop, and latch. All beautiful reproductions. I don't know why he stopped. I don't see how he got his money back in developing them and if he still sold him he'd be making all kinds of money. What I want to know is what happened to the molds? Even back then most were rusted out. He should have sold a bunch to Golden State Pickup Parts to get the ball rolling.

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX

special K
Thank you for the info ! Is Dennis' Truck Parts still in business ? I'm going to see what I can find out about it .

Steve Hafner
I didn't get any pics yet but when my wife gets back with the good camera I will take a few shots of what I cut off and where I'm at now.

I was getting ready to switch my welder over to .023 wire when I found out I don't have a drive roll for the smaller wire. I believe .035 wire is a bit much for body work.
I'll call the welding supply house tomorrow and get it ordered. Then see where I'm at,, might be a few days before I get back to it.

Take care ! Tom

I found this :
http://www.dennischevytruckparts.com/

I'm going to contact him and see why he quit making the doors.

The business is for sale !!

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX

Here's what I wrote to Dennis :
Hi
I was informed by a member on the 67-72 chevy truck forum that you folks used to sell an aftermarket door for the tool stowage compartment on a '72 C20. Do you have any of these left ? Did you manufacture them yourself ?

What was/is the cost ?

Thank you very much !!!

Here is his reply:

Tom,
No, I no longer have any doors.

My molds got destroyed so have made no more molds.

Thanks,

Dennis

I guess that answers that question !!!

Steve Hafner

Been crazy busy but got some pics tionite.

First pics are before I removed the door and last one are what I found when I sanded the putty off. You can see where I cut the lower section off so I can make a new one .

It will be a while before I'll be back on this but will keep everyone updated !

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX

Got a 70 custom with the tool box, door is in pretty good shape, hinges..... not so much. Does anyone know where to get new hinges? Some of the restored ones on this thread look to have new ones. Did you have to make them yourself? Any help will be appreciated!
