Going back to steel rims

Due to the lack of 16.5 tires on the market, I'm probably gonna have to get new rims in order to put fresh shoes on my beast.

72 K2500 daily driver 8x6.5lug 4" lift, currently on BFG 35x12.5x16.5

Seriously thinking about going back to original style 16" steels with dog dish caps. I'm in a bit of a rush now (rear tires not got much tread left, so waiting around for good OEM steels isn't an option), so I'm looking at repro.

Truck Shop has 16"x8" steels for $129 each, and I've had good luck with Truck Shop stuff in the past (Counterpart and other). Mount BFG T/A KO2 315/75R16 on them, close enough to my current size tires to not have to worry about rubbing.

Any other ideas? Sources of good steels? Hidden stash of 35x12.5x16.5 rubber?

Re: Going back to steel rims

Did 16x10 through wheel vintiques. A little pricer than the truck shops I believe.

16x7 ford accuride wheels are plentiful in junkyards and can be had cheap.

Oooh, thanks. The black satin 16x10 is only $5 more each than Truck Shop's 16x8, and it'll fit the tires I want better.

Thanks for the heads up!

Re: Going back to steel rims

And I found those exact rims on SummitRacing for a few bucks less, free shipping, and no sales tax.

I'll stop by Sears Auto after work and see what they can do. But I'm really liking the visual of those black satin steelies on my truck.

That's what I'm doing on my truck--black steelies, no caps. Seeing as my truck is all white, I figured it might be good to break up the white-ness of it. Haha. Post a pic if you can when you get em.

I'm also planning on painting the truck white, so I'm thinking black steelies with black center caps. It'll go with my black steel bumpers.

Re: Going back to steel rims

I plan on powder coating my front bumper black as well. Are you using an OEM bumper or a reproduction? I'm hoping to eventually find an original bumper as my current bumper is fairly bent up. Usually the reproduction stuff is junk.

The bumpers on my 72 were custom-built by the PO. My build thread for the truck has decent pics of the front bumpers, but not the rear.
