Re: 71 2wd conversion project

Ok here is the measurements i got. 12 3/4" from top right p.s. bolt hole to front control arm mount bolt at base. 16" from same p.s. hole to back motor mount bolt. see picture with red lines. all measurements are center to center. *note that i drew the line to the end of the bolt but measured it to the base*.
also i took a measure ment from the rad suport mount center to the top left bolt that mounts the cross member to frame, 23 3/8". I have more pictures with the tape meaure in view if you want them. also of the rear air bag mount plate. if you want them i can post those tonight from home. this was all done to the frame before i got it. let me know if you need anything else.

Re: 71 2wd conversion project

Thats great I cant thank you enough......I measured my 73-87 donor frame and my 70 c-10 frame and I got 12 7/8 or right in that area so 12 3/4 is good and I got right around 16" to the motor mount also. thank you again and sorry for highjacking your post I just really wanted someone who has what I am wanting to do to get the measurements for me so again thank you for the pics also. And as for the rear suspention I will make that all from scratch but if I happen to need anything I know where to go.......thanks again

Re: 71 2wd conversion project

so I have decided to just keep the stock suspension for now. sence all i need is hardware to bolt everything in. it will be faster and less expensive to get a roller and then a driver. I can spend the money on body work insted of a drop memeber. but the c4 suspension is still the end game.

JJzep I had decided to just use the stock parts to get it going but i changed my mind back to going full on with the porterbuilt and c4 suspension. so i am willing to part with all of the stock parts. as for the trans x-member. its a factory 2wd one from a 67-72. i'll get that pic tonight if i can.

Re: 71 2wd conversion project

those pillars look like 73-87 ones, if they are I was wondering if the motor mount hole where lengthend on the pillar and it looks like they are not bolted in the factory spot on the crossmember.

Re: 71 2wd conversion project

yes oldschool the x member is from an 84. the mounts have been modified to fit on the 69 frame. i dont know if they are in stock location or not. the motor mounts look like they are sloted but not much. i bought the frame like it is, so i dont know much and havent taken it apart.

Re: 71 2wd conversion project

so i got some work done on my body cart and now have the body bolted to it. I still need to finish welding the uprights in the front and add some to the middle so its supported in 6 spots. then add the reciever mounts and build extention arms so i can flip it on to its side. the floor is about 40 inches from the ground so its at a good height for body work. here is some pictures.

Re: 71 2wd conversion project

Well i started to strip the roll in bedliner/ under coating off the pass side floor to see how it would come off. i used a propane torch to heat it and a putty knife. its going to take a while. I dont know if blasting it will be easier or not. I did find that who ever repainted this used alum house trim to cover the big rust holes and brazed up alot of small holes. the braze wasnt a bad idea. also the rust isnt bad on pass side so looks like just the outer floor section and rocker there. drivers side needs the floor and rear flr section. now that the weather is warming up i can actually get some work done. aalso been buying the hardware i need to bolt the chassis together to get a roller. soon i hope.

Re: 71 2wd conversion project

No, been sitting idle due to lack of space to build. tough when you dont have a shop and banks are stingy about loaning money for constuction of a garage. But house a nd garage going up this summer so hopefully i can actually build inside this winter.
