GPS Speedo Option?

I am now looking for a 3 3/8" or 5" GPS speedo that is decently priced, any suggestions? I have a lot of speed traps on my daily commute and have gotten 2 tickets in the last 3 months without a functional speedo. I may go with a scangauge if these don't work but wanted something slightly more stock looking. I did the S10 speedo swap and it reads 120mpg at 40mph on my 2000 LS engine and I have been unable to get it fixed in the tune. I am afraid cable-x would do the same since it is feeding of the same VSS signal so that is why I am leaning toward GPS.

I don't really have a suggestion for a GPS Speedometer that will fit in the stock dash, but what I do in my vehicles as a "temporary" solution is use a phone mount and a free GPS Speedometer app on my phone. Might save you some ticket money until you find a good permanent solution!

Not sure why your speedo would read 120 at 40? Do you have it hooked up to the correct speedometer output wire? I would think if the PCM thought your MPH was that far off it wouldn't shift right either. Does the needle go to 0 when stopped?

I have it hooked up to the VSS wire on my standalone harness. The needle goes to zero when stopped, it is just ~3x off...at 20 it reads 60, 30 = 90, etc. I am going to drive it with my OBD reader hooked up and see what it reads vs the speedo but I have to find a place to drive slow as over 40 mph the needle is pressing on the stop at 120 mph and I am afraid I may damage the needle or speedo having it maxed for long periods. I have a NV3500 manual trans. Perhaps my 3" more diameter tires, tall trans gears, and 3.08 rear end is throwing it off but it seems to be reading very excessive.

I do believe Auto Meter makes one and Dakota Digital, not sure on the price though. You could also just use a Garmin GPS, they show speed.

It sounds like the speedometer is functioning properly, but the signal to it is 3 times higher than it should be. I have a feeling when you put a scanner on it, it will show the speed way off too. I'm not real familiar with that trans, but I suspect it has a different speed sensor in it. You should be able to change it in the tune to make it work.

Yes, sorry I did not update the thread. I am traveling in Mexico at the moment. I did drive the truck and you are correct, the speedo reads right but my signal is 2.5x (not 3 as I thought) more than actual speed. I drove past a construction sign that provides actual speed to get this measurement. I have a new ECU coming this week where the tuner is going to input my gear/tire size/ and trans. Hopefully, this will resolve this issue, my fans not being turned on, and my motor not being able to run with the TPS hooked up (fingers crossed).

I have the Autometer one, works great unless I am sitting in my carport...not sure is you can see it though

For the s10 mod to work your pcm is going to have to be correctly calibrated for tire size/gear ratio. The speedo output on the pcm outputs a 4000 pulse per mile signal, but it is based off of the miles per rev calibration in the tune.

If you are going to go aftermarket you dont need gps though, any of the modern aftermarket stuff can be set based on a pretty much arbitrary ppm signal.

I got my newly tuned ECU back and the speedo is calibrated fairly correctly now. Glad to get this resolved although I have new issues/resolutions with each boxed tune I get.
