Roller Rockers

I recently purchased a set of world product Sportsman 2 heads in a bag of roller rockers we're throwing in with the deal no looking at the roller rockers they are earson brand there is a 1.6 on some of them and a 1.5 on some of them. My question is why are there two different racial numbers or are the 1.6 for the intake and the 1.5 for the exhaust or vice versa confused please help any info would be much appreciated

Re: Roller Rockers

It's a tuning deal. All depends on the cam. THe 1.6 gives more lift and duration than the 1.5's.
You can put them either way, all intake 1.6's or opposite.

If you intend to use those rockers, you need to check them close (doesn't matter that they are Erson, check ANY used rocker...). Make sure the roller tips move freely, and have no play in them, no flat spots. Make sure the pivot is free, spins free.

Re: Roller Rockers

Need to know the specs on the cam, but if you're going to run splits, 1.6 on the intake, usually. You also need to look and see if the heads have guide plates. No guide plates: you need self-aligning rockers.

Re: Roller Rockers

I always figured the exhaust was the weaker side and more apt to appreciate the 1.6 rockers.

Re: Roller Rockers

I would put the 1.6 on the intake side. You want to get more fuel into the motor for more power.

Re: Roller Rockers

I wouldn’t decide on either set until I had the heads checked for cracks!
When you get stuff cheap with freebies thrown in, there’s always a catch!

^^This^^ is correct.

Doesn't do any good to put more in if you can't get it back out. Let the exhaust breathe.

Why then does some motors come with 2 intake valves and 1 exhaust valve. A turbo forces air into a motor it doesn't suck the exhaust out.

First I would do what has been mentioned already. Check the heads for cracks, than I would show you how to drink the 12 pack and than watch you buy new rockers. I don’t use “used” rockers. You got more beer ?

Re: Roller Rockers

I ran a 377 small block that had 1.6 ratio rockers on the 4 outer intake valves. Theory was that the outers had longer intake runners so the 1.6 helped push more air/fuel to the outers. Not sure if it made a difference but it was a strong running motor.
