Re: remote start

some things to keep in mind.

remote start systems require fuel injection and an automatic transmission. if you have a carb or a manual trans, remote start will not work.

1. remote start systems have no way to "set the choke" or push the gas pedal to prime the carb during start up. fuel injection solves this which is why its required. without fuel injection, the remote start will crank and crank until it starts or overheats the starter or start circuits. (some cadillacs in the early 80s had a system that would "pump" the gas pedal during cranking. would not trust such a primitive system.)

2. manual trans has a "clutch safety switch" that requires pushing the clutch pedal in to crank. For remote start to work, this would need bypassing. if the car is left in gear and remote stared, it will lurch forward and not stop until cranked then drive off without you. p.s. any one that has owned an early Beetle will tell you, sooner or later you will accidentally leave it in gear and crank it without your foot on the clutch.

what is your current set up?

I have used a Viper alarm, remote starter set up on my 1995 Trans Am. had it installed when it was new and worked flawlessly until I converted the car to a manual and had to disconnect for the above reason.

These alarms are really cheap on eBay. not a bad idea since I'm hearing of our trucks being targeted for thefts more often. just installed one on our truck for a little piece of mind.

Re: remote start

good set up, that will remedy the above issues.

here is a 1 way alarm/remote start unit that might be a good starting point for some research.
