Re: My Project 56Chevy1300

best way is from the motor back. make sue everything is level side to side, front to back. should improve the ride with the updates 10 fold. if you match the trans output angle with the pinion angle you should be set.

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300

I was wondering if you had any pics with front sheet metal back on? Was wanting to see how keeping stock axle centerline looked with the camaro clip and bagged. Did wheels look centered in opening with truck on the ground? I also have the video to do the clip. Others tell me to move axle centerline forward about an inch.

No sheetmetal back on yet; I agree that moving the axle centerline 1" forward will center the wheels in the wheel wells, you may want to do this in the rear as well.

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300

I was also wondering if i move the axle centerline forward 1 " if this will effect the clearance between the steering box and the radiator support? It looks like it might be a problem based on pics since the clip would be moving forward and support staying in same location.

I'll check on the clearance when I get home and let you know.

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300

Just found this and thought I would say, i would run a Watts Link instead of a panhard bar. keep the axle centered thru complete travel instead of moving it side to side with travel. Only bad part is you couldn't run your bag behind axle setup.

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300

I'm back in the shop, started to assembly the engine. I'm probably going to need some help as I've never done this before.

Thanks Throwback, I am a novice at this so I think I'm going to stick with the panhard supplied. This truck is just for cruising anyways.

You guys are going to have to help me! Do I need a gasket between the block and pump? What is the torque spec of the oil pump bolt? What is the torque spec of the oil pump nut?

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300

Question 1 - Do I use this gasket sealer on both sides of the gasket? Do I need to let this stuff set first?
Question 2 - Do I need to use red or blue threadlocker on the oil pump bolt?

Mounts are tacked in. Working on tranny crossmember. Needed to cut a notch to clear the brake booster.

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300

Let me know how well the cross menber fits. I had the same problem with mine not clearing the booster. I use spacers to get it to clear but it makes the crossmember hang down to low. when you get it bolted in could you take some detail photos and post them?

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300

Hey Dave, hope these help. There's about 3/4 to 1" clearance. I added a 1/8" spacer between the crossmember mounting bracket and the frame. I also welded the driver's side bracket to the crossmember as I cut a little notch out of it. I'm not sure if I can weld the other side...don't know if I could take it off if it was welded since its on the inside of the frame.
