interior door handle remove

Any good techniques for removing these handles? They are stuck and I don't want to bugger up the trim. I've got to fix the door latch (yep it's on the driver's side).

Re: interior door handle remove

There's a c-clip that anchors the handle to the actuator in the door. Gently push the panel in and look down to the backside of the handle for the visual. The window crank has the same clip, if that works better. You might be able to use a long flat screwdriver to push the clip off. I have notched the shaft on a Phillips screwdriver that allows me to catch the clip and pull it. Sorry no pics.

bend a paper clip about 1/8" with the hook facing you slide it in behind it oposite the handle..with a little fishing you will hook it then gently push the handle in and pull the clip out...the clip may wanna fly so keep an eye on it...place the clip back on the handle and press it on when your done

Re: interior door handle remove

Here's a shot of the tool. It is engineered to prevent the c clip from shooting off into space, just sliding it back far enough to get handle off.

The removal tool is the best if you want to buy one. If not the screw driver works just as good.

Re: interior door handle remove

just wiggle it back & forth till it catches & pushes the clip off. Usually the clip gets stuck in the rag so you dont lose it. 1000 times better than any tool.

I used screwdrivers many times, it's usually a struggle and you may end up shopping for a new spring clip. The tool you pictured is cheap and works extremely well, and you don't lose the clip.

Re: interior door handle remove

The tool is cheap and readily available just good to have around...now if some of the aftermarket handles/clips would stay on/fixed as the originals do...don't throw away the old clips they sometimes work better...FYI

I tried the rag trick today. So simple and the color of the rag doesn't even matter. LOL

Rag trick worked like a charm. Thanks!

Now if it were just as easy to fix those broken brittle plastic pieces behind them.

Re: interior door handle remove

Raising this thread from the dead....I have the interior door handle clip removed. Is there anything else I need to do to remove it. I ask this because the C clip is out and my handle will not come off. I wanted to ask before I used elbow grease

Some gently encouragement (jiggling). Try to rock or see saw it to release. If that doesn't work you may Ned some liquid wrench. If that is the case be careful if you are trying to reuse or dye the door panels.

I thought I remembered it coming right off after the clip is out. Just making sure. I know sometimes they hide screws, for example window wipers knob screw.

Thanks
