Keep the oil pan full and you'll be fine. Usually it makes a big mess but check it every so many miles and add oil to it.

up near kokomo north of indy. I was going to have someone tow it out here but the cheapest (which is cheap dont get me wrong) is 400 bucks. However if i drive it even at 10 mpg (gets better then that) it will only cost me 180 including the second car worth of Gas driving out to pick it up.

Re: What kind of Damage...

Just be very conscious of the oil level, or it will cost a lot more than $400.

Re: What kind of Damage...

Go for it! And have your "chase" vehicle follow you to watch for a sudden indication of excess oil loss. If his windshield is getting "oiled" it might be time to reconsider your trip . I don't guess anyone has actually asked, but how bad is the leak?

Well going off a buddy...he said pretty good size while sitting still...but I had the rear seal on the tranny replaced and then had it serviced...they found nothing leaking..but..not sure..the friend is pretty good mechanically..he said he knows the difference between ATF and oil...but the oil changer didnt see a leak..i am just not taking chances.

Lucus oil treatment might slow it down a bit

Re: What kind of Damage...

Well it is official as long as nothing weird happens to chuck (my truck) then he will be home Sunday in Missouri. Should be a fun road trip. Anyone know at what speed a 350 gets the most optimal gas mileage.

Re: What kind of Damage...

This trip sounds like a cheap way to rust proof the bottom of your truck.

Re: What kind of Damage...

since its its fuel injected i would drive 65-70. i would guess it has a 3.08 gear so it will cruise just fine on the hwy at high speeds.

Re: What kind of Damage...

If you check it after 50, 100, and 150 miles you'll have a good idea how much your losing for a given distance. Then you can be sure to stop before you lose to much. Be sure to check your oil pressure gage (or the idiot light) when you start up and that will give you a safety check backup.

Re: What kind of Damage...

and don't forget to call up the indiana dot and ask where to send the bill for re oiling the roads for them
if its going through a lot I'd look into finding some of that cheep reprocessed oil that you can buy in the 2 & 5 gal. jugs

How much oil did you consume? What was your fuel mileage?

Re: What kind of Damage...

well believe it or not i did not consume any oil or VERY little. I checked it often (at least 5 times in the 8 hour trip) and nothing was missing. So not sure what they were talking about.

Mileage wise...well that is hard to tell...I found that my gas gauge is off seeing that it is a 16 gallon tank and i filled up at 1/4 left and only put 9 gallon in it.

If i had to take a guess...i would guess between 15-17 mpg.
