I bought 2 new square style side mirrors from LMC for my 72 Blazer. I figured they just popped off and I could install new ones. I took one off and I heard a metal plate fall. I'm thinking I have to remove the interior door panel to install these? There are big metal plates that I guess hold the mirror in place. Any help?

The mirrors are attached to a metal backing plate on the back side of the door skin. You need to remove the door panel and wind the window all the way up to get a hand in there to hold the backing plate in place while you turn the screws. A second person to hold the plate while you turn the screws from the outside makes the job much easier.

I just did a set last week. pull the door apart and put two screws in the plate and then get some masking tape or duct tape and tape in place. the screws keep the plate in place while you tape it. you should be able to then take the screws out and gently install the mirror with one person. its kind of a pain but thats how i did it. hope this makes sense.

Well I got the door apart. I'm just hoping I'll be able to get it back together now. lol. I figured out how it goes together it just seems like a huge pain in the ass, and now I have a metal plate sitting inside my door somewhere. So you take the plate and tape it inside the door? Maybe it just seems impossible because my hands are pretty large trying to fumble a plate around in that little hole. I guess I'll try again tomorrow morning, thanks guys.

On mine, it seems like the screws are a little too large for the holes in the backing plate. Anyone else have that problem?

Run the screws in and out on the workbench first. Doing it now and found that out the hard way.

I glued my backing plate to the inside of the door with adhesive caulk, let it set overnight, and screwed the mirrors on the next day. This way you can take off the mirrors if needed without having to remove the door panel again.

Also, to make sure the screw holes line up, and help snug up the backing plate, run the screws into it while the adhesive dries!
