Finally finished with both sides of the cab. inner and outer rockers, brace, kick panel, pillar, and floor pan. Now I'm going to take the bed and cab off the frame and put them to the side, and start on restoring the frame, getting the frame ready for paint and possibly start on some brake work and suspension. QUESTION: whats your favorite way to strip the frame? (BESIDES sand blasting)

I'm thinking some semi gloss rustoleum, thinned out and sprayed. what are you guys thoughts on this?

SIRCRUNCH, You wont like RUSTOLEUM especially if you thin it. EASTWOOD and others have frame coatings that will last longer and look better! Looks like You are doing a good job! I like the trailing arm suspension and step bed.

I used a wire wheel on mine and painted with Rustoleum Farm & Implement paint in low gloss black out of a can with a brush, and then used the same in a spray can for the areas that I could not reach with a brush. My truck is going to be a driver, not a show truck so I can always touch up any chips or scratches. I thought about using Eastwood's internal frame coating inside the doors and cab above the windshield, also inside the fleet bedsides and anywhere else I could not reach by painting. Build is looking good, keep taking your time it will pay off in the end.

Looks like a great start, I know some people enjoy buying new parts but when it comes down to the rust removal they quickly get overwhelmed (I know it was an eye opener for me!).

I bought some Chassis Saver from Napa for my frame, but i haven't used it yet. It is similar to POR15 (which I used on a truck about 20 years ago, it worked well). The Chassis Saver cost less, so I thought I would try it.

Right rear corner lowered. Lowering BLOCKS, lowering SPRINGS, C- notch, New shocks, shock relocation kit.

That's the carrier bearing assembly. They can be bought at a parts store. Go look at one first. Many folks make that bearing assy. They are not all the same. The cheapest one is usually the worst quality.....

got the rear totally finished, moved on to the front. grand slam kit from cpp with drop springs and spindles, new shocks, disk brakes, 5 lug conversion, shock mounting improvement, tie rod ends, etc....

Thank you! Currently waiting on a bearing to come in the mail from CPP. The one they sent was damaged. I've been waiting about 16 days now for that bearing. I got a set of junk 5 lug wheels to replace the 6 luggers just so I can keep the chassis rolling. I replaced that carrier bearing!! and finally, I have a media blaster coming out in early march! Things are going to happen this year.

Looks great,it is a long process, I did notice one thing,I might be wrong,but it looks like your rear upper shock mount relocate bracket might be installed backwards?I think the shock should lay more forward.

Well, thank you for your input. I'll check into that. I honestly think I've installed it correctly because there's no way the shock would even reach the mounting point at the bottom if the shock were mounted farther away at the top. anyone else out there that would like to chime in?

It looks positioned right to me. If it isn’t though, it doesn’t look like there is any way to position it more vertical.

Sircrunch this thing is coming together nicely, great work! I’m right there with you, just finished the front end rebuild and cleaning up the rear. My carrier bearing was shot as well so I opted for a one-piece driveshaft instead.

In retrospect, a media blaster may have been a better approach than all the wire wheel work I did on the rear. POR-15 worked out great though so I’m sure whatever you do will be better than how it currently is.

Oopsy,did some research,looks like they are in the right position,my truck is 1000 miles away in storage,I think I will have to turn mine around,put mine on,looked a little odd,but could not bolt the lower shock to the mount,the shocks I have are fat body HD shock and would not fit past rear end tube.will get some thinner body shocks,what brand of rear shock did you use?

I used the standard shocks cpp sent with the package. They are short for the low application.... Theres an option to upgrade to a better shock but I didn't take that option.

this past weekend I received a nice shipment from summit of some CPP parts. I got the rear axle 5 lug conversion kit. It came with axles, drums, and a differential cover gasket. I pulled the axles and replaced them. Then I rebuilt the drum brakes with new shoes, new wheel cylinders, and new hardware kit. Things are looking great. I am excited. My next project is all new steel brake lines, front and back.
